A 38-year-old Canadian man has been arrested in Chiang Mai on a charge of raping a British tourist, after police said they found information indicating he was preparing to leave Thailand.

The suspect named by authorities as Aldo Giovanni Ochoa Saenz was detained in a hotel room in central Chiang Mai at 11pm on September 22. The arrest was announced on September 23, 2026.

He was arrested under a warrant issued by Chiang Mai Provincial Court for the offence of rape, according to Tourist Police and Mae Ping Police Station officers.

Complaint followed party on September 13

The case began after the British Consulate in Chiang Mai contacted Tourist Police Division 2 following a report from a British tourist who said she had been sexually assaulted.

The woman told officers that she had arrived in Thailand for travel and had met socially with a group of friends, including the suspect, on September 13. The group had consumed alcohol before the alleged assault took place, police said.

She later filed a complaint with investigators at Mae Ping Police Station. Officers gathered evidence and arranged for her to undergo a medical examination at a hospital before applying to the court for an arrest warrant.

Tourist Police investigators, led by Pol Lt Col Awirut Sukhyaem, worked with officers from Mae Ping Police Station in the operation. Pol Col Phitsanu Triamdee, superintendent of Tourist Police Division 2, had received the initial co-ordination from the British Consulate.

Phone data showed planned departure, police say

Police said checks of information held on the suspect's mobile phone indicated that he intended to leave the kingdom on the morning of September 23.

Officers moved quickly to locate him and arrested him at the Chiang Mai hotel before he could depart, according to the police account.

Saenz was taken to investigators at Mae Ping Police Station for further legal proceedings. Police said they would ensure fairness for both sides, in the investigation.

I give some good advice and this is how I have been doing it for many years:
Before sexual intercourse, both participants sign that the sexual act is carried out consensually by both parties.
It is best if the document is confirmed by 2 witnesses.
In order not to have any problems even after many years (see Dumold J. Dumb), there is a retention requirement of 20 years!

It is the opinion of many that alcohol is infinitely more dangerous than cannabis. The greatest threat when high on ganja is a loss of ambition, the number of threats involving alcohol are two numerous account, and that doesn't even take into account the threats to one's health.

Making common cannabis illegal again is pureile, ignorant, arrogant, immature, a sign of fake puritanism, and a total misunderstanding of the entire science.

And the fact that it would happen under Anutin, the man who stumped for the legalization of cannabis, says a lot about who the man truly is. And that is not a pretty picture.

A group of Canadian junior hockey players got a woman to state on a video when she was sober, what they were going to do and how she was consenting to it. And how it was her idea. Later she claimed rape anyway. And they all got acquitted by a female judge. But their careers were ruined anyway.

I go further and have an actual physical witness in the room during the rumpy pumpy. To date, all of my potential paramours have declined to participate after thinking, somewhat irrationally, that I seek some weird voyeuristic 3-some.

I reckon I will go for the monkhood instead as recent reports suggest they get almost slavish attention from a certain demographic of the opposite sex, including lavish gifts.

There's all the usual rush to judgement. Maybe wait for the facts?

Sexual assault has a wide spetrum. It can mean everything from groping, to inability to consent (like unconscious), to rape with simultaneous aggravated violent assault with injury. If the woman was too intoxicated to give consent then it falls into that inability to consent - which is sexual assault and a criminal offense in most places.

However, 'regret sex' happens too sometimes, though rarely, usually involving drugs or alcohol that lowered inhibitions and can sometimes lead to a rape charge once sober. That's why the article says the police will treat both sides fairly in an investigation. They need to figure out exactly what happaned. But the person who laid the charge should always be given the benefit of the doubt during the investigation and treated as a victim unless proved otherwise.

Will she even be able to afford to return to Thailand to go to court? She may have to return on more than one occasion.

Will she go to such trouble and expense, with no guarantee of a positive outcome?

Unless she has injuries, it's her word against his, so there is already some reasonable doubt, then you can throw in alcohol and drugs cloud her testimony.

I would not be surprised if she withdraws her complaint.

He was arrested, so he couldn't skip out of the country. They will investigate further and see if there are grounds to charge him.

Could have been worse; they could have charged him right away. At least they're going to investigate and make sure which side of the story makes more sense.

While a medical examination does not directly prove sexual assault has taken place, because medical findings alone cannot establish a legal lack of consent, the fact that she underwent an examination and the police are conducting an investigation leads me to believe there is more to this story. British lady is claiming sexual assault not rape, major difference. No details of what she means by sexual assault and what lead up to that event. Was she leading him on and then decided to turn on the breaks and the train going full speed, so to speak, came off the tracks. Were there drugs or alcohol involved that rendered both "youths" incapable of making rational decisions. Not enough information to conclude what took place.

The other thing could be that she got drunk and went back tohis room and had sex without a raincoat. As to the medical exam they are mandatory to confirm that she had sex. It will be interesting to see if the media takes this and runs withit just hope the trash edia in the UK donot get it.

No testimony from the group regarding behavior of either woman or accused, ie., accused man and woman left the group together and/or displayed affectionate behavior when with the group?

What no one that comes to Thailand leaves Thailand? What actions did the accused make that indicated he was FLEEING Thailand to avoid arrest? For example did he terminate his lodging stay earlier than booked, caught on his way to the airport via an immediate transportation? Was his stay term via visa aborted, ie., had 30 days and leaving after only 5 days?

But arrested immediately to detain accused from leaving Thailand. If it is decided that the rape allegation was "unfounded", then the woman committed a crime - to be fair shouldn't police insure she cannot immediately leave Thailand?

Some of us believe in due process of the presumption of innocence. That's what fairness means. Rather unfortunate that you assume that the man is guilty despite their beng no evidence given that he was.
