mezcal
Hi all kf6vci (Chris) and I (Markus) are headed north to Chiang Mai to have a nice bike tour. We'll arrive by train in the morning of the 27th. From there we'll rent 2 bikes and will be touring till the 29th. In case the ride proves to be too amazing to stop, we can always extend it as we don't have other commitments. We would like to invite any rider with some time on their hands to join us on this little adventure and welcome any inputs regarding the tour, as we are open for suggestions regarding amazing roads and places to chill. Come on guys, the more the merrier! Edited September 10, 2010 by mezcal
sunnyhor
Good choice. I'd been to this Northern route many times. From Chiangmai, using the route 1095, head to Pai and finally Mae Hong Son. You will not forget this trip. There are a total of 1864 curves to handle though! Visit my photostream you will see lot's of Northern Thailand escape photos....hope this help! msg362
You can hire an ER6n in Chiang Mai, about 1000 Baht/day. Another good loop ( a few hours) is the Samoeng loop If you hire a trail bike you can get off road in the north, but it's very wet at present. LivinLOS
The Pai / MHS loop is special, but dam_n its twisty.. Fun on a smaller bike but got a bit much on a biggish one. I was wishing for somewhere to get up into the top half of the gearbox !! It would really excell with a light motard etc. The Phrao road has been resurfaced and was a much more fun blat for me.. It rained like hel_l last time I was up there, really wanted to head up to Mae Salong but rain stopped play.. If my plans work well it wont be long until I am resident up there so will have the playground on the doorstep. mezcal
I think we'll take the 1095 to Pai, over to the 108 back to Chiang Mai. Looks excellent! http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Chiang+Mai,+Thailand&daddr=Pai,+Mae+Hong+Son,+Thailand+to:Mae+La+Noi+Mae+Hong+Son+Thailand+to:Chom+Thong+Chiang+Mai+Thailand+to:Chiang+Mai,+Thailand&hl=en&geocode=FbDPHgEd227hBSlBeJnCyMzQMDHUAyWSduFpag%3BFX0xJgEdTmndBSm_VzDqBILaMDGQdIr6xUYDAw%3BFS6EGAEdOWfWBSlDe8VbQTDbMDEAvYv6xUYDBA%3BFXsFGQEdDa7hBSkpZNlSprrbMDGAoD5qyEYDCg%3BFbDPHgEd227hBSlBeJnCyMzQMDHUAyWSduFpag&mra=pd&mrcr=0,1&sll=19.038752,98.591309&sspn=1.020341,1.760559&ie=UTF8&ll=18.542117,98.503418&spn=1.023355,1.760559&z=
OZEMADE
If you are planning any trips North , I would suggest you go to www.gt-rider.com commonly known as Golden Triangle Rider. they show all the trips you can do north, the road conditions and accomodation. Sojourner
Besides what GTRider has on their website, take a look at Chiang Mai Bike Week's website. Click on bike tours. http://www.chiangmaibikeweek.com/ We just had a group of ten do the ride from Chiang Mai down towards Khun Tan Natl. Park. Great road, no problems. We stopped for lunch at the Gassan Khuntan Resort and Golf Club. That map is one of the many we've posted for everyone to enjoy. Safe ride.
