September 22, 201015 yr A while back we bought some tilapia (plan nin and tub tim) from a well know farm famous for all male fingerlings. After a few months later they started breeding? Eventually there were problems with the pump and they all died. I'd now like to get some more, but first would like to know what went wrong. Could I have been given the wrong fish? Could it have been environmental? Any ideas?
September 22, 201015 yr Let them breed intentionally, Put Pla Duk (Clarias catfish) and Pla Choen (Snakehead) in to eat the babies, and let the Tilapia link the food chain between algae and meat. I had a really nice reservoir where this happened, quite by accident. Existing Pla Nin multiplied by the millions and kept 80,000 Pla Sawai (Pangasius catfish) very pleased. If a few thousand Tilapia make it past the Police Fish, then more power to them. Nothing quite as strong as natural selection to build a good gene pool. Then send me some of your refined unkillable brood stock. I didn't have to feed the Pangasius for a long time, yet they continued to grow unhindered
