Shades of Gordon Brown circa 2007? It must be tempting for Burnham to call an early election. Firstly, the next budget was always going to be tricky, but the problems in the bond market make its' timing increasingly problematic. A November/ December election would give him a legitimate excuse to postpone it. Secondly, the negative publicity which Farage individually and Reform collectively are attracting over donations has stalled their momentum. Finally, Reform, Restore and the Greens will each currently find it very difficult to find anything like 600+ credible candidates to stand in an early election. Unless these parties have dramatically improved their vetting processes, then there will probably be more than a few individuals with 'skeletons in the closet' which will be revealed. If an early election is held no doubt Labour will lose a relatively large number of MPs, however, it might be their best chance of retaining power rather than waiting until 2028/29.
