robbiecia
Hi learned ones. Will be spending a few nights in Madrid soon. I have never been before, so can anyone recommend a good area for a hotel. Would like to be centrally located, not to far away from the must see list. Any ideas or recommendations would be thoroughly appreciated.

Miiyai46
You can look for a hotel in the following areas: Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Paseo del Prado, la Gran Vía, Chueca or Las Cortes. I would recommend you to take a hotel at the "Puerta del sol" Cheers Edited September 29, 2010 by Miiyai46
craigt3365
Madrid is a fantastic city. Puerta del Sol is kinda the middle and a great place to be based...at least within a short walk. You can easily walk to the Royal Palace or Retiro Park. Be sure to try the tapas at the new market just past Plaza Mayor. Walk west of the plaza on the North side. Just past the plaza is a new fresh market. Beautiful building and packed with people enjoying wine and tapas. Real fun. Just push your way to the bar and order up! Botin Restaurant is just south of there...supposedly the oldest restaurant in the world. For good recommendations, try tripadvisor.com. Great for hotel recommendations, restaurants, tourist sites, etc.
