I've been looking for a portable mp3 player that will resume when yo turn it off, then on again so that you canmaintain some continuity in an audio book. Does anyone know of such an animal available here in LOS?? name and model number please....

preferably with usb input....2-4gig

I don't think they exist. But it should be simple enough to record each segment separately and then merge them on your PC. There's a freebie Audio Editor called "Audacity" which I've used myself from time to time and it's pretty simple. Download link and instructions here: Audacity sound editor

The main reason for having that feature is for my 'low tech' 91 yr old father who's eyesight is failing [along with other physical/mental systems] and a simple [user friendly] audio book player would be a gift......if it resumed. Any suggestions???

I've got a Samsung YP-U5 that I use for my Thai lessons. If I stop in mid-lesson, turn it off, then turn it on again, it will resume where I left off. Should work just as well for a ebook. Should be really cheap as well......I bought mine from a friend, second hand, 500 baht, 2gb memory.

Can be bought here, but I think many MP3 players can resume, if I'm not mistaken I think my old iPod resumes as well.

I do know that Phillips doesn't resume. I will give them credit for having a great customer service response, as they answered my question about a certain model as well as others.....reply was within 24hrs.....response was 'no....won't resume'

I'm a mad Audio Book guy and I've had several MP3 players all from eBay and all resume.

Around 800 to 1000 baht delivered with 1 or 2 gig + slot for more memory.

An important thing to do is break the chapters down into smaller segments so that if you (he) fall asleep and the player keeps going, it will get only to the end of the segment and stop. I use 4 minutes.

Put these segments into directories so it's all easy to find.

A\

...A01

...A02

...A03 etc

B\

...B01

...B02

...B03 etc

Search eBay for "MP3 player" "Located in xxxxx" and "Buy it now".

Maybe a better idea is a DVD player with USB input so he can control it with the remote and see the directories on the big screen.

What brands/models would you recomend Kenny??

I just refined a google search to 'portable e-readers and SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4 GB MP3 Player [@$42.95] got good reviews. Are you famaliar with that one??

I think that I have seen Sandisk here in LOS and would feel better buying it where there is service available.

I have it,same model SansaClip+ with 8G.It is the best thing you can get,not only for book reading, but music as well;for music you need to buy better earphones, according to yours ears requirements,

better your ears are - better earphones/headphones you need.(and more expensive!),but for books only - supplied buds are enough.

However - I have bad news for you:SanDisk do not sell them in Asia;you have to buy them online and another bad news:they do not send them to Asia! You have to use proxy service or friends favour.

This thing is small and light, anybody can bring it for you.

encore:

in SansaClip+ you will find memory slot for microSD cards;you will not find it in any ipods/iphones,even those special limited edition models in gold colors!

This card you can fit into your mobilephone, comp,DVD player or....digital photo frame,or....GPS receiver in your car as well as some of car stereos and some other mp3 players - but never in i-pods.

microSD card are very small, but now - they are available in capacity - max 32G(my Clip+ plays 16G tested!),using adapters, which they give you with card,

you can use them as full size SD cards and - as USB sticks.Sound quality of SansaClip,Clip+,SansaFuze are of audiophile standard;price? - around 50 US$.

user interface is simple, build quality is high. The only problem you may encounter - you will lose it and you will miss it - buy 2 pieces!
