Militants burn 20 NATO oil tankers in Pakistan

2010-10-04 04:13:58 GMT+7 (ICT)

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- Around 20 NATO oil tankers were destroyed by suspected militants near the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on Monday, officials said.

According to preliminary information, militants set on fire the tankers parked on a roadside near Rawalpindi. At least two people were killed during the attack.

On Friday, around 30 NATO oil tankers were destroyed by suspected militants in southern Pakistan. The tankers were on their way to Quetta from Karachi when a group of militants set the tankers on fire at a filling station.

On Thursday, Pakistan decided to block a NATO supply route into Afghanistan just hours after a NATO-led operation allegedly killed three Pakistani officials and wounded three others when U.S. helicopters struck a Mandato Khando post in Pakistan's Kurram district.

"We will have to see whether we are allies or enemies," Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said after the air strike.

NATO's International Security Assistance Force had previously announced that it would be investigating the case, and while spokesman Lt. Col. John Dorrian said military officials have not confirmed the deaths, Firday marks the second consecutive day of the route blocking.
