Accident Chaiyaphum Local Official Found Dead After Flash Flood Sweeps Vehicle Into Ravine
Picture courtesy of Daily News. A search effort concluded in sorrow on the 27 June, when the body of a missing local official was recovered, following a flash flood that swept his vehicle into a deep ravine in Chaiyaphum province. Mr. Somsuan Nolach, aged 59, a member of the Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) for Village 11, Ban Dong Lan in Watabaek Subdistrict, Thep Sathit District, had been missing since the night of 26 June. He was driving his white Ford four-door pickup truck when a powerful flash flood, triggered by torrential rains cascading from the Phang Hoei mountain range, swept the vehicle off the road and into a ravine. Initial rescue operations recovered the vehicle the following morning, roughly 100 metres from the point it was swept away, but there was no sign of the driver. At approximately noon on 27 June, rescue teams discovered Mr. Somsuan’s body lodged beneath a fallen tree and large rocks in a section of the Huai Farang stream, around 600 metres from where the vehicle was found and more than 700 metres from the original crash site. The recovery operation was challenging due to the strong current and numerous obstacles in the stream, including boulders and submerged debris. Authorities continue to warn residents in mountainous areas to exercise extreme caution, particularly during the current period of unpredictable and intense rainfall. Accident Lorry Crashes Through Barrier and Hits Passenger Train in Sa Kaeo
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A collision between an 18-wheeler lorry and a passenger train has left one person dead and four injured in Sa Kaeo, after the lorry driver crashed through a closed level crossing barrier and struck a moving train. The incident occurred at 15:25 on 26 June, at kilometre marker 220/9 between Watthana Nakhon and Sa Kaeo stations. The freight lorry collided with Ordinary Train No. 276, which was operating between Ban Klong Luk Border and Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong Station. The impact caused one of the passenger carriages to derail. One railway employee stationed at the crossing was injured, along with three train passengers who sustained minor injuries. All four were promptly transported to hospital. The driver of the lorry was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations indicate that the crossing barrier had been properly lowered by a railway employee at the time of the incident. Despite this, the lorry proceeded to drive through the barrier and struck the middle portion of the train. Due to the disruption, passengers on Train No. 279, running from Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) to Ban Klong Luk Border, were transferred by road from Sa Kaeo Station to their final destination. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether mechanical failure occurred or it was just driver error. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-06-28
