Six missing after going on fishing trip off New Jersey

2010-10-11 22:09:29 GMT+7 (ICT)

ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY (BNO NEWS) -- The U.S. Coast Guard on Monday said it is searching for six people who went missing after going on a fishing trip off the coast of New Jersey.

The agency said the six men had left on Saturday for an overnight fishing trip to Toms Canyon, about 85 miles (136 kilometers) east of Atlantic City. When they didn't return the next day, one of their wives reported them missing at around 6.40 p.m. EDT.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the men, who had left from Forked River aboard a vessel called 'Black Magic', were supposed to return on Sunday morning. They were identified as Bernie Otiemsky, Jerry Lewis, Ed Filcox, Geoffrey McDade, James McDade and Ray Somerville.

Participating in the search are two rescue helicopters from the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in Atlantic City and an aircrew of a Coast Guard C-130 aircraft from U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. The crews of Coast Guard Cutter Finback and two rescue boats are also participating.

Authorities ask for anyone with information about the missing boaters to call Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay at 215-271-4960.
