Transfer Non O Visa From Old To New Passport

Featured Replies

If anyone can help me I would be obliged. I procured a one year non o multiple entry visa from KL in March. Unfortunately I only had one stamp free page left in my passport but I went back to the UK in September. Therefore being in the UK I decided to get a new passport. I am travelling back to BKK on Thursday. If I take my old passport, with the valid one year non o multiple entry visa, will Thai passport control accept the visa in my old passport and stamp me with the normal 90 days? The old passport has been cut across the personal details page rendering it invalid. Does this mean the non o visa is invalid too?

If I do need to get another visa it is possible for me to pick one up from the Thai Consulate in Glasgow tomorrow. So as time is running out if anyone has any advice I would be most grateful.

Your one year multiple entry non immigrant O visa from KL issued this March is still valid.

When I had a new passport issued by the FCO some years ago, the top right corner was cut off the whole of my old passport; however, any pages with a valid visa were folded in before, so that these pages were not defaced and thus remained valid.

Just show the old passport along with your new one when you arrive at Thai customs and you will get a 90 day stamp - should be fine.

Yes, the multiple-entry non-O visa in your old passport is still valid for travel to Thailand until the day before the "enter before" date stamped on your visa. When you arrive in Thailand, write the visa number on the arrival card as usual and give the immigration officer both your old and your new passport. He will put the arrival stamp with permission to stay for 90 days in your new passport and probably also make a note in your new passport about your visa in the old passport. As long as the visa is valid for travel, continue travelling to Thailand with the old and new passport.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

When I had this done at Hua Hin immigration they charged me 500bt.

Let me guess, they didn't give a receipt.

When you had what done? You entered the country in Hua Hin? A visa is never transferred to another passport - only a permission to stay or extension of stay would be. To use old visa you present both passports as said.

We had got new passports earlier this year and when we went to immigration Hua Hin we were told there was no need for anything to be transferred to new passport we just needed to carry both passports with us until our visa ran out. At the airport, when we left Thailand on for our visia run, a senior official was called over and notations were made in both passports and that was the end of it. At no time were we charged anything!
