Jatuporn to sue Methee

Pheu Thai Party MP and red-shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan said yesterday that he was going to sue actor Methee Amornwuthikul for defamation following the latter's allegations against him.

The politician dismissed Methee's claims that he had phoned to threaten the actor for being a state witness in cases against red shirts and that he, Jatuporn, was involved in the skimming off of Bt68-million in donations collected from red-shirt supporters during the recent anti-government protests.

Jatuporn said his lawyer was drafting a lawsuit and could file it within a few days. He said that in addition to the criminal lawsuit he would also seek damages from Methee under civil law.

The outspoken MP also said he would soon make public Methee's testimony given to Department of Special Investigation (DSI) officials making accusations against fellow red shirts in exchange for being exempted from legal action for his involvement in some violent incidents.

Methee joined the red-shirt protest during Songkran 2009 when he made a threat on Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's life. He made headlines again later that year when he punched a Surat Thani Pheu Thai official, who sought payment from the party at its headquarters.

Methee was arrested in April this year at the height of the red-shirt rally. His vehicle was found to be carrying weapons, some of which included a Tavor assault rifle that red protesters had seized from a soldier.

Methee briefly met DSI chief Tharit Pengdit on Tuesday to complain that he got a threatening call from Jatuporn for his role as a state witness in cases against the red shirts and that part of the Bt68-million donation was skimmed off with Jatuporn's knowledge.

In response to Methee's claim, Jatuporn said that the amount was not Bt68 million as claimed but actually "just Bt37 million". The red-shirt leader said the money was used to cover the cost of holding the rally for 68 days.

Businessman Somwang Asrasi, who is a major financier for the red shirts, yesterday backed Jatuporn's claim that the donation was "just a little over Bt37 million" and that all the money was spent to cover the rally's costs. He said that as the person responsible for taking care of the money donated, he made sure to record how it was spent.

"I don't know how Methee came up with the amount of Bt68 million. He might have thought that Bt1 million could have been collected for each of the 68 rally days," Somwang said.

However, he also said he was not responsible for making payments from donations to families of the injured and killed protesters, so he was unaware how much the total amount was. He called for an explanation from red leader Veera Musigapong's sister-in-law, who was involved in the matter.

Veera yesterday visited fellow red leaders being detained at the Bangkok Remand Prison. He declined to comment on Methee's allegations, saying that it was a court-set condition in exchange for him being granted bail.

After the political turmoil came to an end following military intervention, Veera was remanded to prison for a short period on charges of terrorism and inciting unrest.

Reminds me of the song, "When Soi Dogs Scrap" (still being written)

If Jatuporn was to be sued for every defamation or false accusation he makes, the man would have to permanently pitch his tent in the courts, he's got a cheek!

.

Somwang Asrasi, a UDD member and the owner of Mitsushita, an electical appliances company, said during a visit to UDD leaders at Bangkok Remand Prison that Mr Methi's allegation about the 68 million baht donation money was groundless.

Mr Somwang, who was responsible for keeping the donation accounts, said donations totalled only 37 million baht and he reported to three UDD leaders on the expenses incurred every 10 days.

By the end of the rally, all of the money was spent, he said.

Mr Somwang said he had also advised a sister-in-law of Veera Musikhapong, a UDD leader, to clarify this matter to the public. He identified the woman only as "Khun Maem"

In a corner and now the pack stars to turn on itself. Indeed a welcome move .Again it shows only too clearly the ethics of the Red Shirt band of thugs. Loyalty to money and stuff the little people.

If Jatuporn was to be sued for every defamation or false accusation he makes, the man would have to permanently pitch his tent in the courts, he's got a cheek!

How many people did Ghandi sue?

Ghandi was a lawyer. Until the lead piece enter him.

In my wife's village, it is widely discussed how much he got off Thaksin for holding the rallies....and of course they are still waiting for Thaksin to come back and give each village 1MM Baht, as he had previously promised to do....

The wait could be a little longer than anticipated.

The guy gives weasels a bad rap.

What else is new?

I predicted this the second I read the letters J A T U

his lawyer must be richer than Thaksin with all his lawsuits

In a topic from long, long time ago (Sept 30) it said

"The funds were transferred to two individuals - a woman known as Maem, who claimed to be the sister-in-law of red-shirt leader Veera Musigapong, and a man called Tum who acted as an aide to Maem."

( )

Just for fun and :) to get into the spirit of it all read the thread again

These two deserve each other. One is a positive nut case, but they both have delusions of grandeur.

And hoe did he spend 37M in 68 days ? Unbelievable that these guys get away with all this, even more amazing that all his red shirt supporters just look the other way !?

I think the 1million baht has been paid to every village but in most cases the villagers maybe not be aware of it as it has in many cases been spend on some peronal expenses of the village head.

One day Mr Jatuporn will get whats coming to him - its a pity we cant all sue HIM - I know I would like to personally - my Thai wife was 6 months pregnant when the red shirts invaded the hospital. She was poked with a bamboo stick in her stomach by a red shirt and told to get out of bed. She gave birth to our son 3 months premature the day after this, although to be fair she was admitted because there was a danger of this happening - personall I hope that all the red shirt leaders die and go to hel_l!!!! Id like to meet Khun Jutaporn in a dark alley on my own - just him and ME!!

They will look the other way because they want their share in the future.

Really??? That's disgraceful (the bamboo stick thing, not beating up Jatuporn - I would also like the opportunity)!

To be honest though, you should file a complaint against former-TRT MP Payap Panket, not Jatuporn as he was the one that led the Reds into Chula hospital that day. PM me if you want, I can help with this.

I have posted a note on your profile

I have posted a note on your profile also Arisman was responsible for leading them into the hospital. but Jutaporn did nothing to stop them for sure. It cant be proven but I would suggest he encouraged them.

OK Ian, check your messages ;)

Though I haven't seen/heard/read anything about Arisaman's involvement in the Chula hospital invasion.

This should have been reported when it happened, and be announced to the public in news. It's better late than never anyway. Get in touch with the media - the public need to know how disgraceful the UDD and their supporters are. If such news causes less people to support UDD and Pheu Thai then it would be worth it. We don't want such a bunch of senseless thugs (and others who condone their behavior) running this country.
