In a separate case, three flower garland vendors have been arrested for drug dealing.

Chanasongkram Police arrested 60 year old Thawatch Pimwilai, accused of raping his 10 year old stepdaughter multiple times.

.The mother of the child said that she had been with Thawatch for over a year when she noticed that her daughter looked unusually depressed.

    I hope the three flower garland vendors will show other prisoners how to do business.

    It would be interesting to know how many daughters and sons are looking "unusually depressed" in the LOS.

   Guess it took over a year for the girls' mother to ask her child why she was so "unusually depressed". Unfortunately Thawatch - if guilty- Will hopefully make the same experience to be fresh flesh in prison.

one of the most common symptoms of abuse in children is change in behaviour: happy child, playing with friends, enjoying school etc. becomes withdrawn, stops interacting with friends and family, eating habits change, bed wetting, not wanting to go to school, ....these are warning signs of bullying, physical abuse and sexual abuse.....priests, teachers, sports coaches, friends, neighbours and family members....in Canada there is a professional hockey coach who was convicted of abusing former NHL players when they were 14....the on going scandal in the Roman Catholic church were thousands of children were abused and family members didn't know or notice the telling signs....

I know, it's disgraceful, the very people that parents believe can be trusted. The very disturbing thing is ones that are caught are just the tip of the iceburg.

I believe all too often the abuse is covered up by family fearing the consequences just make everything worse.

I don't HAVE hard evidence, I'm just reiterating exactly what was told to me by my girl friend at that time. I also witnessed much of what I said because I lived up there for a short time. Obviously I'm focusing primarily on Buriram and the surrounding villages so I'm not making a "sweeping claim". If you believe I'm making an "anecdotal or a wild-eyed yell" you're entitled to your own oppinion; if you can provide evidence to the contrary I'd be happy to admit I'm wrong.

I'm not making a "claim" I'm just stating what I heard and observed. I have not conducted a scientific study, I just felt what I heard and observed was unusual to me. I'm sorry if I implied that the topic was gay sex, what I meant was the topic is human sexuality and the importance of the orgasm. Everyone experiences an orgasm but some people place much more importance on achieving it than others. In this particular post a stepfather felt it was more important to achieve an orgasm than his moral responsibility to his family; hence he raped his own daughter. If you focus on the reward of a sexual encounter maybe we can better understand why these incidence occur. Sex is a very important part of human nature but maybe it's being distorted by unknown forces. It's amazing how little is known about human sexuality and the only experts are the advertising industry. I just think it's an interesting topic which I obviously know little about, even though the continuity of our species depends on it.

Yes it's true I have no proof! My own girlfriend told me this because she actually had to live with her grandparents threw puberty because they feared she would be raped by her own father. As I read it, the thread started off with an elderly stepfather raping a child and then it went all the way into the land of blame visiting the tribe that blames pornography, to the evil kingdom of the homosexuals, and then on to the northern lands where fathers supposedly rape their daughters as part of their normal activities. I don't know about some of you folks, but I was under the impression that the behavioural motivations for forced sexual relations upon stepchildren were unrelated to pornography, that gay males have sex with other males and not with little girls, and that Thai fathers in northern Thailand are not likely to break the cultural taboo on incest.

Some of you guys must have had some very f*cked up childhoods or live in a very disturbed and perverted fantasyland.

Greed and sexual exploitation of others, both contradict the teachings of Buddha. Wouldn't you expect a predominantly Buddhist country to actually exemplify SOME of the wisdom provided by Buddha their supposed focal point of their professed faith. Both of these characteristics would be considered "Selfishness".

While most would think Thailand is a "Buddhist" country, I would say in general that most of the population has little real knowledge of Buddhist teachings. They mostly go thru the motions without much understanding of the religion. Seems like most go to the temple to ask for some kind of favor or luck. Without making too much of a generalization they seem to do what is expected in public but privately just live like most of the people in the world in which greed is god, and ethical behavior is for the few.

This thread has gone all over the place. While I will admit to being sucked in by the headline and as unfortunate as the incident is, this was hardly worth the initial posting as news, and the subsequent 4 pages of comments (including mine) added little. Posting and thread were a waste of my time.
