Oman Air @ U-Tapao Airport

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Yesterday Oman Air planes were fly low around U-Tapao Airport in Sattahip/Ban Chang. The last time we saw it like this it was Phuket Air before they lost their safety certificate.

Can anyone through any light on why they were there?

Cheers

Are Oman Airways regular visitors there? If not - could be that they are just practicing. (Happens on Samui when a new airline is looking to use the place.)

Just learning how to throw out more Thobs & Ghutras.

I have seen a few lately. Must be the wind direction? The plane was basically going down the coast from Pattaya to Sattahip...almost directly over Suk. Hope they don't keep that up!

Thai Technical (Thai Airways' maintenance unit) is a large aircraft overhaul base in U-Tapao. They also provide services to third parties. So the Oman Air plane might have undergone some maintenance there. After some major work on planes, they will perform a series of flight tests to make sure everything is fine. The low flight might have been part of such a flight test.
