FRANKFURT, GERMANY (BNO NEWS) -- A 28-year-old German man was sentenced to more than three years in prison on Friday for supporting two terrorist organization and supporting a foiled terrorist plot.

The man of Turkish descent was only identified as Salih S. during the three-day trial and was found guilty of being a member of the terrorist Islamic Jihad Union (IJU), an offshoot of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. He was accused of helping in preparing logistics, procuring weapons, and planning attacks against the Pakistani army in Waziristan.

Salih S. was also convicted of supporting the so-called Sauerland Group, which attempted to attack several U.S. army bases in Germany in 2007. Other members of the group were sentenced earlier this year.

Judges at the sentencing said Salih S. wanted to participate in the jihad, or holy war, and sentenced him to three years and three months in prison.

The Turkish-born German said, after the verdict was announced, that he wanted to put everything behind him and vowed to never disappoint his family again.

In 2007, Salih went to northern Pakistan to attend a terrorist camp. He acquired the 'standard equipment,' which included a Kalashnikov rifle, ammunition and four hand grenades. He also learned how to handle weapons and explosives.

He pledged support to the Sauerland Group leader and its jihad but reconsidered his situation and returned to Turkey with his wife and daughter in late 2007. However, he was arrested in November 2008 after a European arrest warrant was issued that summer.

In March, four members of the so-called Sauerland Group were sentenced to prison terms ranging between five and twelve years for planning attacks on U.S. facilities in Germany on behalf of the IJU.

Three years in prison for planning terrorist attacks!! That's unbelievable, one can only hope he cooperated fully with the authorities and handed up a lot of his comrades in order to receive such a small sentence.
