SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS (BNO NEWS) -- Suspected criminal group members on Saturday opened fire on people at a football match in the northern Honduran city of San Petro Sula, killing at least 14 people, officials said.

Armando Calidonio, Honduras's vice-minister for security, told reporters that at least four gunmen fired at the victims at short range, killing 10 at the scene in the Felipe Zelaya neighborhood. Five others were transported to Mario Catarino Rivas hospital, where four died and one is reported to be in a serious condition.

Saturday's attack occurred in the Rivera Hernandez section, one of the most violent areas of Hondura's second city.

Bloody attacks are not uncommon in San Pedro Sula. At least 18 people were killed and many wounded after gunmen stormed a shoe workshop on September 7. Among the deceased a member of "Mara 18," a local criminal group linked to drug cartels, was found.
