UPDATE

Flood Wreaks Havoc in South

Trang and Satun provinces have been hit hard by flooding this year.

However, the water level in some areas has dropped to safer levels.

Meanwhile, a large warship has been sent to assist those in need.

Many parts of the municipality of Trang province have been inundated by water from Bantat hill.

The affected areas include a local stadium, Wang Yao Bridge, and Ban Klong Jet Village.

The situation has prompted municipality and local administrative organization officials to begin helping residents around the clock.

However, some other districts that flooded are now seeing water levels recede.

In Satun province, Provincial Governor Winai Karuwanpat said the water level in seven flood hit districts has receded as the water has already passed villages and headed to the sea.

In addition, there has been great cooperation between state and private organizations, and there have been no reports of villages where people have been trapped with rescuers unable to reach them.

Winai said the situation is the result of Satun's geography, as the west is full of hills, which helps divert water to the sea rapidly.

He went on to say that the situation will soon return to normal if the water level continues to drop over the next few days.

Meanwhile, the Navy said the Chakkrinaruebet warship is likely to reach Hat Yai THIS AFTERNOON, and officials on board will immediately discuss anti flood measures and distribute 1,000 life packages.

SONGKHLA CITY UPDATE:

Here in Songkhla City, power is back in most parts of town. No ATMs working and water is on in some areas. We do not know how long for.

Trees down everywhere, some roads and paths swept away. Mud and debris everywhere. Beach areas wiped out. Sanitation remains my concern at this time. Internet has just come back up (obviously) but most mobile phones still not working. Some landlines are. We appear to be cut off from the Airport and Border, although the Army has used some 2.5 tonners to get some to the airport. So, get a taxi and play "spot the Army truck".

Immigration advise that in case of a natural disaster, holders of expiring visas have an automatic extra week to leave the Kingdom.

I really would prefer not to have to go through this again.

HTMS Chakri Naruebet loaded with relief items and boats for flood-hit people arrived at an island off Songkhla province on Wednesday.

The ship had spent about 18 hours for travelling from a naval base in Sattahip to Nu Island off Songkhla.

Rear Admiral Sakarin Charoensuk, commander of navy rescue mission, said that the task force led by HTMS Chakri Naruebet, will anchor at the island for five days.

"During the five days, we will distribute the relief items to flood-hit people donated from Friends in Need of "Pa" Volunteers Foundation and other organisations," he said.

The items would be transported to the main land by boats and helicopters.

The helicopter carrier would turn into a huge kitchen which would cook for the affected people, approximately not less than 1,000.
