Comorian-flagged vessel pirated in Somali basin

GULF OF ADEN (BNO NEWS) -- A Comorian-flagged merchant vessel on Wednesday was pirated while heading to Dar Es Salam in Tanzania, the European Union Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia announced.

The MV ALY ZOULFECAR was on route from the Comoros to Dar Es Salam in the Somali basin when it was attacked. On Wednesday morning, the Comorian-flagged vessel reported that pirates had boarded the vessel.

The Comorian merchant vessel was carrying 29 people on board. Form that amount 20 are passengers and 9 are crew members. The crew consists of one Tanzanian, 4 Comorian, and 4 from Madagascar.

Overall the MV ALY ZOULFECAR was carrying 13 Tanzanian, 12 Comorians and 4 Malagasy. The pirates have not issued their demands, and no passenger nor crew member has been injured.
