SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA (BNO NEWS) -- At least two people are missing when a South Korean patrol ship sunk into the waters off the coast of the southern island of Jeju after it collided with a fishing boat, a Navy official said Wednesday.

The ship collided at around 10:50 p.m. local time while it was conducting a training mission approximately 5.4 miles northwest of Jeju Island.

"We've rescued 28 fishermen aboard and two are still missing," a Navy spokesperson was quoted by Yonhap news agency. "We've sent several patrol ships and helicopters to the scene to search for the missing."

No reports have indicated whether the fishing boat also sunk.
