Do you know from your experience if the Rimkok will also offer a Christmas meal in the evening ?

Or any other restaurants ?

I know that the Rimkok is putting on a Christmas Eve buffet (evening!) but don't know what they plan for Christmas Day.

I have no issue with a criticism of the commercialism of Christmas. I would happily join in except this subject has been written about tens of thousands of times more eloquently than I or the poster are likely to achieve. It seems an issue almost without debate.

As I have not seen any great influx of commercial Christmas into Chiang Rai, it seems akin to a rant about the evils of bull fighting in Spain.

Although I may see the posters need to vent, it seems a strange venue.:whistling:

weed a day

That is awful! Prefer him banging on the old ivories! His sandpapery singing voice was due to 60 weeds per day killed him in the end.

I do enjoy his best of album, NATURE BOY particularly.

Lman is sitting in Top North Mae Sai, awaiting Mrs Lman to buy her sales wares - bras, chatting endlessly no doubt, anyways there's wi-fi and the coffee's good.

We looking forward to seeing you, ImageDude. Happy to know your recovery is progressing well.

And we look forward to sharing some time with you my friend. My progress has been slow and will continue to be so . . . but, at least, it is progress.

See you soon.

The grinch on a roid rage :redcard2:

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but is this one you really needed to share.

Why should I not share, after all I couldn't possibly be the only one on the planet who hates Christmas. I'm sick of all the superficial cutsie little reindeer, snowmen, Santa Clauses, jingle bells, etc. Oh, excuse me just a moment while I vomit. I mean, driving by some houses looks like the light monster walked by and threw up all over the place. A very few are done well and are attractive but the vast majority are gaudy and look like crap..

I also hate all Christmas songs. I would much rather plug in Metallica or AC/DC then listen to any sugarcoated, department store, elevator-sounding Christmas song.

I vehemently resent all the expectations and demands placed on me at Christmas. I'm not poor but I'm not rich either, and I have bills to pay. There is an endless list of things I am expected to spend my money on – gifts for everyone, tips for all my service providers, extra food, christmas cards, decorations, lights, etc, etc, etc. It is financially irresponsible to buy gifts for everybody at the same time.

Christmas has become the antithesis of itself. It is supposed to be an attitude from the heart of sharing, reflection, and spending time with the ones you love. For those who believe in Christianity it is supposed to be a quiet remembrance of the Biblical Christmas story.

Instead, everybody rushes around going through the motions out of a sense of duty. They want to appear as though they have the Christmas spirit but instead are just mindlessly complying with all the demands and obligations that bombard us from every direction. They use up an unbelievable amount of time and money on Christmas stuff. Why should I send a card to someone I don't communicate with the rest of the year just because I am related to them? To me it is just overwhelming crass commercialisation and a waste of time, effort and money.

BAH HUMBUG !

I'm with you on this one 100% mate!

My least favourite time of year

I am a Catholic but not a very good one since when I was about 13. I believe whatever good you have done on earth, no matter what/whom is worshiped, one will be judged so if there is a higher being.

My most favorite out of many trips to home in Thailand was in the 90's and went during December. Never celebrate Christmas in the states, no tree, no presents as wife and I have no kids and no family here.

My wife who is Buddhist, surprised me Christmas Eve and her family bought a Christmas tree, food, beer and whiskey, cake, and invited all the kids of family friends over that evening, the women having a good time cooking food (all the good stuff like ants also :o), and the kids ran around having fun. Later in the night, she suprised me again as presents were bought for the young kids and I had the pleasure to had hand them out (took video of the fun it was) and the happy faces. It just felt so good doing that and plan when moving there, doing it again.

The Kangaroo Bar will be closed from Monday 20th Dec 2010 to open on Monday 3rd Jan 2011. We will be relaxing on Koh Chang and spending our Xmas there.

Bro, spent 10 years in southeast Asia. Japan, Vietnam, Okinawa, Korea, Guam, Taiwan. I stayed away from all those "exotic protein" good thingys. the locals like to eat. Last time in Thailand, got really drunk and finally tried the fried locast/grasshopper. Did it just to surprise the family and say to myself, ok-ate a bug, crispy style like Kentucky Fried Chicken, and filled a box in my life. Family has eaten ants, locusts, rat, spiders and their eggs. God knows what else. Moi? No mas! 1 bug enough no matter how much beer in me. Oh, did eat a piece of cobra we found on our farmland and kinda like chicken when BBQ.

Never had tadpole and think I will have to pass. :( Being Italian, meat, potato, pizza guy.

I get to eat ants with most things these days. The sugar doesnt quite taste the same without them.

No Comment on the Tadpoles.

So Far, we have two English Gentlemen giving it the Bahh Humbug routine.

I happen to know these Gentlemen and I also happen to know that the UK has recently put the clocks back to try in vain to retain some daylight hours.

Lets paint a picture for our non english friends, especially the ones from climes closer to the equator.

Its dark at 4pm. Its cold, damp, wet, grey and quite frankly, MISERABLE over in blighty.

Theres a permanent fog over the River Thames ,and River Humber

These two good folks are suffereing from the S.A.D syndrome. Their Pineal Glands (I said Pineal :D ) and any other glands I could mention need some SUNSHINE and a trip to Thailand.

Didn't I hear through the rumor mill, that last year's Christmas Dinner at RICO'S was a complete bust, except for the first handful of people who actually managed to get some of the one tiny turkey that was prepared? I wasn't there but there was talk.

I was present at Rico's christmas dinner last year, and for me , it did nothing to add to the cheer. I WILL NOT BE ATTENDIND THIS YEAR !

BAH HUMBUG !

Again. Your describing a typical English fest.

There are some brilliant xmas carols, and some not so brilliant. That song I posted just came into my head and won't go away, I don't know what it is about it, but it makes my spine tingle for want of a better description.

I can recall the best christmas songs EVER and they were sung by an Oz gentleman by the name of Kevin 'Bl@@dy' Wilson. Unfortunately the titles wouldn't get through Thai Visa's filter :whistling:

Cheers

My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it, it's my favourite christmas song, imagedude and yourself have great taste!

Here's another one which is a bit more appropriate but not about Christmas so sorry to the 'off-topic' nazis.
