90 day report about due.

Usually do this at Kanchanaburi, but today had to renew car insurance @ Nakhon Pathom, so went on to the Immigration Office there.

Can't say anything positive about the environment at all. It hasn't improved at all since my last visit.

Nor can any nice words be used to describe the three long, sullen faces greeting the punters.

Took my queue number, (4 people to be harangued before me). Surprise, I was called, '90 day receipted' and out within 15 minutes. Phew. Relief to get out of that place.

Now for the only nice thing.

Driving out of what passes for the car park, (car windows open) we were overwhelmed by the smell of freshly baked bread.

Sniff sniff - easily found the source of the smell to be a bakery tucked right inside the front gate of the immigration driveway.

Mountains of loaves, bread tins and that aroma :licklips: Had to stop. More than our nostrils could bear.

Asked about the bread - is it sweet or not sweet? "No, it's not sweet".

Is it for sale? "I sell it in the wat (Wat Rai Khing), but, yes, you can buy some".

How much? "10 baht per loaf".

Grinning from ear to ear, we bought two fresh, still warm loaves of bread. Enjoyed them immensely tonight with dinner.

Just as I thought entering Nakhon Pathom Immigration was what it must be like entering Hades, right under my nose - this absolute gem.

Follow your noses guys, after doing the paperwork for extending, reporting or re-entering at this h*ll hole. Enjoy.

Don't understand how the OP was able to do his 90-day reporting at Nakhon Pathom if his normal immigration office is Kanchanaburi, bearing in mind that each office has its own unique catchment area, so I thought. Or maybe the catchment areas for Nakhon Pathom and Kanchanaburi overlap???

OJAS:

I live in Ratchaburi.

Ratchaburi is in the 'catchment' for Nakhon Pathom. I am obliged to go to Nakhon Pathom to extend my visa each year - the place is h*ll on earth. I used to use Kanchanaburi until my obligation to start using Nakhon Pathom (catchment changes).

BUT

When saying farewell and thanks for many years of freindly and helpful service, in really pleasant surroundings, to the staff at Kanchanaburi, they told me:

"You can continue to come here to do your 90 day reports, and you can get re-entry permit's here, too. But you MUST go to Nakhon Pathom to extend your visa. You can do 90 day reports at any Immigration Office".

So, for reasons already explained, I prefer to, and continue to use the friendly (people and environment) Kanchanaburi Bureau for 90 day reporting.

Only on this occassion did I have other business in Nakhon Pathom which meant I could kill two birds with one stone, and discovered the gem of a bakery as a reward for my suffering.

Nakhonpathom immigration people are ok.. would YOU like to work there.

They also get fairly busy as there are LOTS of factories around it. so a LOT of Burmese workers.

There were plans to put a coffee shop on the side and put tables and chairs out. But for some reason that has been postponed.

But funny enough i didn't know about the bakery. Thanks for that. Is it nice?

Yep. The bread was de-lish.

Soft, moist, mouthwateringly tasty, and not sweet at all. Just like a good old fashioned UK bakery loaf. I don't know (didn't ask) if they bake daily, or just on certain days. Sadly, I live too far away to go there regularly for this 10 Baht treat. If you go to extend, you can't miss the aroma, right by the gate.

Dunno which of the NP staff you were 'served' by. Maybe I'm spoiled by my previous local Immigration Office.

On both of my only two visits to NP, the same, haughty middle aged dragon (sits on the extreme right by the wall) dealt with me brusquely, whilst carrying on a conversation with her adjacent colleague about their lunch. I think she might have made eye contact with me for all of two seconds during both transactions.

The youngish lady 'boss' at the back desk seemed to be the best of the bunch. She, at least smiled once or twice.

I did see some Burmese workers, also some PRC Chinese students attending Rajabhat U. extending their stay.

Being Burmese shouldn't incite rudeness and indifference from the staff, indiscriminately applied to all clients.

Where did you hear about the cofee shop? Where would they site it?

Near to the lines of washing, or the fighting chicken cages, or even the pile of plastic bottles B)

But then, if it could serve this bread mmmmmmmmmmm.

I think it's a bit strong accusing the staff in the Nakorn Pathom office of rudeness. Some of them might be a bit off-hand, but most of them are fine and I have been there at least half a dozen times since it opened last year.

The most important thing is that they are efficient at doing their job and usually I can get in and out of there fairly quickly. It is definitely a big improvement over the service I used to get at Suan Phlu.

You can do 90 day reports at any Immigration Office"

Is this really the case? I was under the impression that you could only submit 90-day reports at your local immigration office.

and discovered the gem of a bakery as a reward for my suffering.

If only there were similar culinary delights near my local immigration office at Maptaput. The only "treats" on offer there are noxious smells originating from the mega-industrial estate when the wind is in the wrong direction

90 day reports must be done at the immigration office for the area where you reside. It can no longer be done at any immigration office.

The law allows for you to report by mail, only a few immigration offices seem to insist you do it in person.

Thanks, Mario, just as I suspected. Clearly Kanchanaburi gave the OP duff info!

We shall see if the info was duff or not.

In 85 more days my next 90 day report is due. For reasons stated in first post, this will definitely be made at Kanchanaburi, despite my 'residence' being within the Nakhon Pathom catchment.

I'll post my experience - whether turned away, or, as I was told, (unambiguously, by the senior officer who signs off all the paperwork there) my report will be accepted.... :whistling:
