Marriage Visa

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm in Thailand for 4 years now, and it's getting harder to have WP and VISA.

Actually, I'm working as teacher (100km from Bangkok) and my monthly income is about 25 000 baths. Also, the law just changed and I need to pay to learn to be a teacher (really...) in order to get my teacher's license from the Council Teacher of Thailand (Kurusapha). As I can't afford that, I will not be able to be a teacher in 2 years, because the Kurusapha asked me to do the exams in 2 years.

Now my question is, if I get married with my girlfriend, will I be able to have a Marriage Visa or do I must try keeping my Non-Immigrant VISA ?

Outside Bangkok and big cities, schools are really upset when I ask for paperwork for my VISA and my WP. They just don't understand why I have to do that and I also pay all the fees myself (5100 baths / year).

What it's better? Marriage VISA or Non-Immigrant VISA? Get new job? (if you have opportunities for the last one, please let me know ^^)

Thank you for your replies.

There is no such thing as a marriage visa - what you can obtain is a normal non immigrant O visa rather than the B visa you likely get now. They are essentially the same in what they allow.

You really should be putting priority on meeting teaching standards if that is to be your future in my view - but:

Marriage one year extension of stay requires a monthly income of 40k or 400k be on deposit in your bank account for 2 or 3 months each year (prior to extension). This is the best method for long term stay here.

If unable to meet that requirement marriage one year multi entry non immigrant O visa which requires exit every 90 days is available from KL with 100k in bank account. Most other Consulates will only issue single entry if located in the region.

You would still have the option to extend on basis of work and for teachers that would not require the 40k income that Thai wife would.

No matter which Visa route you take you will still need a WP.

Only if you work.
