MADRID (BNO NEWS) -- Fugitive accountant and former Grant Thornton Hong Kong managing partner Gabriel Ricardo Dias-Azedo, who allegedly stole over $11 million dollars from the firm, was arrested in Spain after several weeks of search, local media reported Wednesday.

Dias-Azedo,62, and a citizen of Hong Kong, was arrested in Salamanca, Spain last month after leaving Hong Kong in September 2009. Grant Thornton Hong Kong creditors have accused him of misappropriated around HK$91 million ($11.7 million).

An international warrant for arrest and possible extradition for Dias-Azedo was reportedly issued by Hong Kong authorities through Interpol, the South China Morningt Post reported.

Dias-Azedo worked as managing partner for Grant Thornton - Britain's fifth largest accounting firm - in Hong Kong until April 2008.
