CONTRACTORS BIDDING FOR UAR AR THORN HOUSE PROJECTS

The National Housing Authority is facing a lack of contractors making bids for the Uar Ar Thorn (เอื้ออาทร) housing projects.

The chairman of the National Housing Authority's state enterprise labour federation, Mr. Wirat Samranrat (วิรัช สำราญราษฎร์), has met with Social Development and Human Security Minister Wanthana Muangsook (วัฒนา เมืองสุข) to discuss the obstacles of the Uar Ar Thorn housing projects.

Minister Wanthana said the National Housing Authority is currently not able to find contractors for the projects, as the increased oil prices had caused construction costs to rise. Meanwhile the price evaluation criteria for houses and land was the same nationwide, while in truth the house construction cost could be made the same but the land prices would not be equal.

It was also found that some projects had a high reservation figure, but in truth, people were not coming to live in the houses. The artificial demand had caused some projects to be dropped, and damaged the National Housing Authority.

Mr. Wanthana suggested the solution to this problem would be to have project backers submit bank guarantees. If nobody came to live in the homes then the National Housing Authority could immediately confiscate the money.
