PHNOM PENH (BNO NEWS) -- More than 180 people were killed on Monday when panic broke out during Water Festival celebrations in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, officials said.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on national television that at least 180 people had been killed in the stampede, which happened on a bridge leading to a small island in the Tonle Sap river.

A hospital official told BNO News that the death toll was expected to surpass 200, and said at least 184 bodies had so far been counted. He said hundreds more were injured.
