Returning To Los With Tourist Visa, Do I Need Proof Of Onward Travel?

Featured Replies

I will be returning to BKK on the return leg of a roundtrip ticket Monday from the US on American Airlines. I have a brand new double entry visa. I have never had any trouble in returning to BKK without proof of onward travel either from immigration or the airline. From past experience however I know that the American based carriers love to mess with you if you don't have proof of onward travel. Does the fact that I have a new visa exempt me from having to buy another plane ticket? Anybody have any experience with this?

Thailand has no requirement for onward travel if you have a visa. But airline can set there own rules.

And individual airlines do have their rules!

I had to fly to Las Vegas last month due to a family emergency and flew back to Thailand on November 5th via Korean Airlines. My ticket was obviously round trip- BKK. being my final destination. While waiting in the departure area in Vegas a Korean Air staff paged a traveler asking to see his passport (not sure what for), Then I was paged and they asked to see my passport, wanting to make sure that I had a valid visa to re-enter Thailand. No problems for me since I had a valid Non B with 1 year extension plus reentry permit. The other traveler who was paged got on the same flight. I am assuming that they wanted to see his visa for the same reason as wanting to see mine, since we were virtually paged back to back. You may want to check with the airline prior to departure to avoid any hassles.

I should also add that i flew to the States (Boston) back in April with my wife and son for a 3 week vacation. We flew Korean Air and there was no check on my visa status after check in before returning back to Thailand . I am assuming that this "policy" may be random. Chok dee.
