Non Imm O Single Entry 3 Month Visa

Featured Replies

South African 86 years of age.My mum is visiting me, (I have a valid workpermit) and she was issued a Non immigrant 0 visa (single entry) for a period of 3 months.I can only take her home in March 2011, and needs to extend this visa for another 3 months, or go to another country to get a new one which will be a problem because her passport expires on the 20th of May 2011.Any advice will be appreciated.

She can not obtain a visa for Thailand with such a passport so that needs to be changed. You do not mention being here on a one year extension of stay (which might open extension for mother as your dependent even with an expiring passport).

Not sure if she can obtain full passport in Bangkok or just temporary but if unable to extend that would seem to be the next option.

Extension can be given if she has an income of 65,000 baht a month or can show a combination of yearly income and money in a bank account in Thailand totaling at least 800,000 baht. There is also the option of showing 800,000 in a bank account in her name in Thailand, but for that the money would have to be there at least 2 months.

The income must be shown with a letter confirming her income from your embassy.

This would entitle he to a 1 year extension of stay.

Edit: if you are here on a 1 year extension of stay the option provided by Lopburi is the best way to go.

So then we are in trouble - the best option is to see if we can get a temporary passport because she will just be here for another 2 months - It seems excessive to have money transferred here in order to get a one year visa! Perhaps I should try to change her visa to a tourist and just to a visa run (if i can get the passport thing sorted out!)

Thanks guys

you need a passport with 6 months to get a visa for any country and most will not even allow u in if your passpot is less than that.

Best bet, get anew passport, transfer the current visa to new passport, when it is up take a trip to Cambodia or Laos and get a free tourist visa

As said she needs a new passport. She then needs to go to a neighbouring country and apply for a Tourist Visa.

It should be noted that in some cases more than 6 months passport validity is required when applying for a visa.

For example if one requires a 1 yr multiple entry non imm 0, then it's likely the Thai Embassy concerned will stipulate a validity of 6 months, AFTER the visa has expired. In other words, a total minimum validity time of 18 mths.
