Last week my wife was picking our daughter up from Aksorn school when a pair on a motor-bike rode up, kicked her motor-bike's front wheel so she wobbled, grabbed her (one baht) necklace, punched our eight-year-old in the face and rode off.

The same day a friend of ours, living in the same road (the one with a fence across the end to keep soi dogs away from a certain member's gateposts) lost a two baht necklace the same way.

This is the seond necklace my wife has lost this year. She usually wears costume jewellry, but for this one day had a little bit of gold on.

So, we have police reports, we have insurance, but this is at the bottom end of the excess, so I doubt if I'll bother to claim.

I am just bloody annoyed with these yobs on motor-bikes.

I know how you feel.My missus has had the same thing happen to her twice.

The last time it happened she managed to chase the bastards, they ended up crashing into the back of a baht bus(the thieving scum).Needless to say, local justice founds its way extremely quickly, and they(the 2 villans)recieved a painful lesson,After which the plod arrived and dealt out the same on the spot punishment(aagghhh, one of LOS' finer points :o )

The last i heard, the 2 boys, one fifteen and the seventeen, where serving 2 years in the monkey house.

Being LOS though(lol) the Police made the missus pay the baht bus (which the thieves and not the missus collided with) 1000 baht.

She was just happy to get the gold back though..

I`m afraid that it`s got to the stage where no-one is safe wearing gold when out and about in Pattaya.

At one time the thieves would only go after the larger more valuable gold chains and not bother with the one baht ones but to-day they`ll have a go at any weight of gold in order to pay for their drugs and alcohol.

Such a shame that these scum spoil the pleasure and enjoyment of ordinary people who have worked hard to enable them to buy their jewellery.

I would like to see better publicity of the sentencing of these criminals.

We only seem to find out their sentence by hearsay. If their punishment was broadcast more widely then it may deter others from being drawn into this type of crime.

There is nothing worse then having to look over your shoulder every time you go out for fear of being mugged but it seems that this is becoming the norm recently.

Until Thai society get a grip on this section of their wayward youth then I am sorry to say that we will be hearing more stories like the above. :o

Last week the wife came in a told me it had happened again, right outside Porns house, A thai guy in his car was follwing his wife/gf on her bike when it happened in front of him, they pushed her to the ground and sped off, he chased but they got away. (shame because I'd like to see them chased under the wheels of a big truck)

About 2 and a half years ago a mamasan friend of ours was knocked off her bike and robbed, she had a minor head injury but went home to sleep, She died in her sleep. :o

Happened to my wife and a neighbor lady some three weeks ago. We live off Siam C.C Road.

Last Monday, my GF went to exercise riding the bicycle around Soi greenway and the elephant camp. After 20 mins,I received a call from her. Two guys on a Honda wave, pulled up next to her, held a gun to her ribs and tore off a gold bracelet she had, which was under her long sleeved sweat shirt...Although there were witnesses, and one pick up truck chased them, they couldn't catch them. The police arrived, said this happens often and that we were lucky she wasn't injured. We went to file a report at the Banglamung Police Station, and looked through the photo albums of "Usual suspects"....To no avail.

According to Police, these guys are mainly part of gangs and in their late teens. Therefore, they don't do much time as a delinquent, or their parents show up and bail them out, claiming they are good boys and this is the first time....

This happened in broad daylight at 4:30 pm. We were called by the local police to go identify some suspects at 11 pm, which they had caught and fit the description, but it wasn't them....

Crime is rampant, its not in the news, but do be careful people are getting more violent and desperate to feed their addictions. I have been cycling down that same route for one year without any problems so far, but I have heard some tragic stories...

By the way, it was also a Honda wave (blue) with no plates....

Unfortunately this sort of crime is not only confined to Pataya. A friend’s TW had 2 Baht ripped off her neck last week, the police had the 2 boys (22 and 14) AND the local Gold Shop owner in handcuffs within an hour.

After the snatch the dumb fcuks rode their very distinctive bike straight to the Gold Shop and a trade was made. The shop owner was arrested but later released after being told what an absolute dick head he had been for believing the boys story about the damaged gold. The gold was taken into evidence.

Outcome: Much to TWs mothers disappointment (the olde leach was expecting a win-fall) my mate, on police advise, refused the offer of compensation from the boys families and did not sign a letter of “Forgiveness”, as such.

The 22yo had his bike confiscated along with the proceeds from the Gold Shop. His family have been warned to expect he will get 5 years in the big house. I believe if my mate had have signed the letter the jail time would have been reduced to about a year but the offender must have had a past history and the police wanted him put away.

The 14yo was released with a severe warning.

WE ALL NEED TO REMIND OUR TWs / TGFs NOT TO FLAUNT THEIR GOLD.

Do these young punks ever snatch gold off a man?  Or are women on bikes the primary targets?

Just how silly is this? :D Lace yourself with gold and expect to walk down the yellow brick road unmolested? In Thailand for pete sakes folks use some common sense. :D Gold is great, shove in someones face and lose it.

I know it is wrong for theft but use your head ... :D

Is it realy so important to show every idiot what you have? :o

I personally wear two rings and a necklace - never been bothered. I have a feeling they don't bother blokes for fear of getting the shi*e kicked out of them. Easier target to pick on a lady. :o

Ditto - I don't wear gold myself -apart from my wedding ring, which my wife insists I have to wear :D:D . She never wears gold when going out alone (except for the ring), simply for the fear of having it snatched. Loves to wear it when we go out together though :D

Had a farang working in the same building as me on my last job - he wore 7 big gold amulets on one of the thickest gold chains I have ever seen. Apart from looking like a pimp, he must be tired of life - even I was playing with the though of mugging him...... :D

Not just ladies who are the victims of these crimes....many men have been robbed of their gold whether out alone or with a lady.

Many of these young robbers carry weapons and will use them.

So be careful and don`t flaunt your gold in public places.

Be aware and use common sense.

So you condone the thieving scum who snatch gold from lone female motorcycle riders then????

Does the same go for instances when people(women) have been followed from cash machines and had a hand bag snatched in a the same way???

If it happens to you,i don't think there'll be many tears shed on this forum

That was a bit of a dumb reply Kringle.

If you read my original post you will see that

1) My wife was wearing a one baht necklace / chain - not flashy, not flaunting.

2) She was picking our daughter up from school

3) Our eight-year-old was punched in the face during the robbery

4) I stated that my wife usually wears costume jewellry now, as this is happening too often on Pattaya for anyone to risk serious injury from these teenage thugs.

Also, if we are going out anywhere, my wife usually wears one of my shirts over her own clothing to hide any tom-foolery she may be wearing.

We are not a careless, over-rich Thai/farang couple, but working people who are trying to make a reasonable life in Thailand. But unless the police get their act together and really crack down on these teenage gangsters, I cannot see it happening. My work in Singapore will finish this year, then I'm back to the oil countries and my wife and daughter will probably go to Oz or the UK.

I don't like country life, nor big-city life, so Pattaya was the right size for me. Regrettably the lawless nature of the place is getting worse by the week and thus it will soon be Sayonara.

Not a dumb reply at all in my opinion. I see so many women AND men out there wearing so much gold it's insane. I've got friends that their wives go out with so much gold on them that it would choke a horse. Is kinda stupid to be riding around on a motorcycle with all of this hanging off of you. I've even heard stories of ladies being robbed in department stores with gold on them. It's a different world out there now and to think that you can flaunt your gold so you look good to other people is just crazy.

Purely up2u what you do.

I don't CONDONE any kind of stealing as "loveThailandlongtime" might want you to believe. I've already posted my stupidity on this forum for NOT being aware and I don't think I was ADVETISING that I had a lot of dosh on me when it happened. ALL I was saying is that I think it to be irresponsible to wear a lot of gold and not be in the position to protect yourself.

I think that MOST people that are on this forum KNOW of the stealing going on in PAttaya and other places by these motorcyle guys, so why not cover your own a$$ and not advertise. Granted a 1 baht chain is not much to you but it sure is to the CRIM. If you can't grab that logic, then I apologise if I made the wrong statement.

BritMaverick, I need to take a break from TV for a while as I have been over the top lately.

Apologees to most anyway :o Not saying it to all as I still have to retain some kind of self, no matter how bad that may be. :D

I'm sure that these thugs on motorbikes don't steal only ladies's gold necklaces. It happens to men, too. It just might be that many men do not report the incident to the police.

Now what would happen if people just stop wearing gold when strolling down the streets of Pattaya (it'll never happen!)? What would the robbers then do to support their drug habits?

This happened to a friend of mine. The farang friend and his Thai wife were riding a baht bus along Pratamnak Rd. late at night. They noticed that a motorbike was riding behind the baht bus. But for some reason the baht bus kep slowing down for no apparent reason. There was no one waiting to get off and no one to get on. Then suddently the motorbike went alongside the baht bus and with one fast movement, grabed the gold necklace the the woman. Before she could do anything, the motorbike sped off into oblivion. The baht bus driver saw the whole thing and did absolutely nothing!

I wonder if there might be any connection with motorbike thieves and certain songteaw drivers. It kinda makes me think. HHHmmmm.................

I can't honestly believe that if those two-wheeled crooks are caught, that they do long jail times. They would have to build hundreds of new monkeys houses to make room.

Wrestler, i think you hit the nail on the head , the prisons are over crowded ,thives on moter bikes are not alone , what about the police , everytime i travel (by car) say to Khon Kaen i am stoped and robed at gun point at least twice each way, by the police , albeit with there smiley faces ,they are still robing me , so how can you tell a young thai lad its wrong to steal when every other forker is at it .and they dont do long prison sentences , even the yabba dealers only do about 6 months

How do you mean - the police rob you?

I have drtven all over Thailand, and still do when I am home, either by myself or with family. Never have I been stopped for money. Occasionally for a traffic offence - of which I am usually guilty. Speeding / overtaking at the wrong place / no seat belt / so on. This isn't robbery - this is my own carelessness.

Personally, I would bring in Sharia law - chop hands and feet for thieving. Or bring in the old Alabama road gangs - make the buggers sweat it out while doing 'community service'.

Prisons should be overcrowded, should be hideous places to go to. Make many of these stupid young gangsters think twice about doing the crime, 'cos they may not be able to do the time.
