Just purchased a new Nokia X2 and it is a wonderful, easy to use machine does everything it says plus...top marks, even the speakers are pretty good for music playback highly recommend for 4000baht!

However....I find it has yahoo mail built in so I just sign in right?..well it keeps coming back telling me there is a comms error and try later.

Been all over the internet blogs and found a guy in the UK says its a settings issue but cannot find where on my machine to actually do those settings ie server, proxy etc

So thought I would set up an Ovi account instead..whatever right? bugger....I get the same message.

Methinks this is an AIS( prepay account) issue, it must be noted that the internet browser works fine though.

Any thoughts and instructions guys? Thanks in advance

You need to have a data plan (Edge/GPRS/3G) on your account. Phones with features such as Yahoo Mail, messenger, etc. need a constant internet connection. If you don't have a generous plan it can get very expensive. I have an Android phone with prepaid AIS and I got the Smartphone 400 plan. For 400 baht a month I get 100 minutes calling to all networks, 25 free sms, 15 free mms and 250Mb of data (amount of time online doesn't matter). I find the 250Mb a month is more than enough for my Smartphone's needs. I barely break the 100Mb a month mark. For prepaid you can get a monthly recurring (make sure funds on your account) for a certain amount of data. I think for this phone the 200Mb plan would suit your needs. Below are the plans and how to activate.

Plan Cost per mo. Dial to activate

30 MB. 99 Baht. * 138 * 01 # <send/call>

200 MB. 299 Baht. * 138 * 02 # <send/call> (Recommended for your device)

500 MB. 400 Baht. * 138 * 03 # <send/call>

1 GB. 650 Baht. * 138 * 04 # <send/call>

I've had this model for ~ 4 months. Its OK, but I hate that the side buttons (music/camera) cannot be disabled. You'll soon find out what I mean. I have One-2-Call/pre-paid and 25 hours GPRS/EDGE per month. Web browser works fine as does access to Gmail; I don't use Yahoo.

Maybe click on the Mail icon (top, right) then get updates, then you should see Ovi, Yahoo, Windows Live, Gmail, Other.

okay that makes sense sorta..I use edge happy on my laptop 210/month 100hrs...like molasses in winter though..I suppose I could do the same with X2...probably just stay with the Facebook which works fine as a messenger etc and use my laptop for mail when in Thailand..email not that important anyways for an old fart.....we will see what the north American costs are for short term 3g or whatever...

Thanks for the info mate..you'd think they could write a bit of code to tell ya that or put it in the user guide? hugh??

This model is not a Smartphone, and it doesn't work that way. The end user establishes a connection (initiates a data call), looks at email (reads, forwards, deletes, reply, etc.) then exits the applications ending the data call.

Again it is insanely simple to set up email on this phone once you've got the menu picks. You shouldn't even really need a data plan t get started. but you will pay 1 baht/min for data.

Maybe I'm missing something. You have a One-2-Call pre-paid SIM, with suitable balance and expiration date? Maybe call 1175 and ask for help?

I agree the X-2 User Manual blows.

Maybe this Youtube video will help? --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdJqS9qYVGo
