On my last extension I kept the money in for 90 days as it seemed unclear to me but I asked at the local office when I extended and was told 90 days first time you extend and 60 days after that. This time a friend has gone with his money in the bank for 60 days as he did last and been told the rules changed this month and it is now 90 days.

Anyone point to the relevent rule change? or is this just another officer's interpretation and a little fib to save face.

It was never "90 days first time you extend and 60 days after that."

The rule is 60 days in the regulations but expect it should be 60 days first application and 90 days after that and most offices have taken that as the real meaning (which is the same as for retirement).

Yes. 60 days for your initial extension and 90 days for every subsequent extension.

This is for Chaengwattana anyway, not sure about other offices.
