A conversation with a friend has led to me asking for confirmation of the date I go to apply for visa extension. He is insistent that the date is the expiry date on the visa and is not related to the expiry date of the last 90 day report. I have a single entry Non Imm O-A visa issued Nov 12 2009. Last 90 day report done Oct 12, expiry Jan 9 2011. Previous information I have gathered on this forum indicates that I an required to do my application up to 30 days before the current 90 day report expires. This will be my first extension. I'm in a bit of a panic, someone please tell me I am right and he is wrong. Should I plan to be at immigration early tomorrow to confirm??

You extend your permission to stay, which has nothing to do with your 90 day report. When you enter Thailand you get a stamp in your passport which tells you till what date you are allowed to stay. Someting like ADMITTED UNTILL **-**-*****. You can extend your stay in the last 30 day of your permisison to stay. Your extension will always start from the date your current permisison ends, so you don't lose any days.

If your visa was issued in November and you have a Jan 9 2011 date in your passport that must be your permitted to stay until date. So your extension of stay application should be between December 10 and that January 9 date. Best to do at least several weeks early and as holiday season (tourists needing extension) I would do 14 or 15 December.
