Ok I just signed up for this. I have never lived in a house with adsl or bb...

(been using CDMA)

I want wireless but it was advised not to buy the cr_p router from 3bb (ttt). So which one ?

I live upstairs and need the signal to go downstairs too. House is small. I like torrents sometimes.

Please advise. I am not very technical but somewhat saavy.

Thank you.

Have been using Netgear wrs2000 with stock blue 3bb router. works great, but took several calls to tech support to get up and running. FYI, tech support was excellent in this matter.

I wanted a 3BB wireless N router, so our daughter could get net access on her i-pod touch at home, also N standard for a bit of future proofing. Thought getting their own router would help if any problems arose when I was away working and the wife had to call for tech support.

I went into the office in Nakhon Phanom to ask for the above, I thought I had sprouted two heads with the blank stares I got. Turns out they only have g compatible routers here in Nakhon Phanom, anybody in the population centres know if a N-class 3BB router exists or not. Their current wired router works fine at present, just wanted to go wireless.

Sorry for the slight thread hijack.

Have you tried goggle for test results for wireless routers, most brands are available here I think.

Best Regards

Not even sure what it is I need.. hence the post.. but I guess N should be a criteria! :)

I am on a mac.. maybe I should go in the apple forum about airports. .

I use BBB 'bog standard' ADSL modem for connection to their network and have connected a wireless router within the house for wireless access. So I have 2 separate 'boxes'. That way the engineers dont get 'confused' when there is a problem - as quite simply I disconnect the wireless router and plug an ethernet cable into their ADSL modem and into my PC so they can test without the 'confusion' of the wireless access.

My wireless router is the Apple Wireless Airport Express - its N standard - and although a little more expensive than some other wireless routers, if you are not a computer 'techy' then its very very easy to configure.

I think I paid around 3500 baht for mine.

Before this I had a D-Link DIR-600 Wireless N 150 Router w/ 4-Port LAN Retail, which I had to replace due to a lightning strike ;)

Although cheaper this box was a pain to configure and although it cost just 1600 baht, IMHO the Apple option was well worth the extra money for ease of installation.

Edit: As you say you are not a computer techy but are savvy, It may be worth googling 'what is a wireless access point' to better understand the configurations you can set up. This will give you a few more 'buzz words' to google as well. Its not difficult, there are only a couple of concepts to understand - you just need to understand the 'jargon'...

This means that you are not getting even a modem from 3BB...

Then you will need a wireless N router with a built-in ADSL2+ modem.

But note that to enjoy the longer signal range of the N series, the wireless adapters in all computers must also support N series, and not only G series. If one comp is running signals in G series, the router will tune broadcasting to G series for all the computers.

I am certainly no expert, there are a lot more knowledgeable people on here to answer your queries. I think N is the new standard for wireless components speaking to each other faster than the old g/b standard. All your components have to be N enabled to take advantage of the faster speeds which the N standard brings, I believe.

Probably would never notice the difference, but just think if its available no point in buying older stuff and then having to upgrade again later on.
