THIEVES KITCHEN

07/12/10

England beyond doubt have been cheated: theirs was the best, most valued bid for the 2018 World Cup.

Russia, almost concurrently impugned as a mafia country by American diplomatic sources, should have been ignored from the first, were FIFA to implement the meaningless hypocrisy of its so called Kick Out Racism policy. Panorama were fully justified in blowing the whistle on the leading FIFA executives and committee members who stole vast funds from the organisation. And the vision of the Prime Minister of Britain grovelling to the ineffable Jack Warner of Trinidad, impugned for disgraceful dealings in black market World Cup tickets, was humiliating and nauseating.

Even Prince William was dragged into the squalor of the system: still more than David Cameron he should surely always have been above the conflict. It remains to be seen whether Russia can make good its expansive promises of stadia building and improve its inadequate sometimes dangerous (aerial) communications. In an ideal football world, major countries would break away from FIFA and form their own federation. Alas it won’t happen. The putrescent augean stables of Zurich will remain.

FIFA alas is beyond reach and beyond reform, a thieves’ kitchen, a sink of iniquity, mired in dishonesty, greed and dishonesty. To impugn the nature and pursuit of the English bid simply begs the question. True it wasn’t what it might have been. In Andy Anson it had, as number one, a fairly feeble advocate. It was beyond belief and logic to subject David Cameron and Prince William to the utter humiliation of trying to persuade the ineffable Jack Warner to come on board, of course that irredeemable charlatan, he of the World Cup ticket scams and so much else, was never going to keep his word. Any more than his fellow CONCACAF miscreant Chuck Blazer.

The spectacle of the Prime Minister of Great Britain grovelling to the likes of Jack Warner is nauseating beyond belief. Cameron should certainly have known better and the well intentioned but plainly ill informed Prince William should never have been exposed to such humiliation.

Ever since Joao Havelange manipulated Stanley Rous out of the presidency of FIFA in Frankfurt in 1974, morality went out of the window, greed and skulduggery became the name of the game, and there is simply nothing to be done with an organisation with its self perpetuating malfeasance.

That Russia, which, far from kicking our racism, has it in its football in spades should get one World Cup is ludicrous enough. That another should be given to tiny Qatar, with its 105 degree heat, its mediaeval laws, its shocking exploitation of immigrant labour, its lack of any achievement or prestige in international football, is surely a parody of a parody.

FIFA in other words is beyond any kind of reform. In an ideal football world, there would be a mass withdrawal of those countries like our own with some claim to honesty and integrity. There are even rumours that this may happen. In the meantime, we can dream can’t we?

Blatter slams 'bad losers'

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has labelled England 'bad losers' following their failed 2018 World Cup bid.

Russia and Qatar were last week chosen by Fifa's executive committee to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups respectively, with England's bid falling at the first hurdle after only receiving two votes from a possible 22.

The decision has sparked an expected negative reaction up and down the country, with bid chief Andy Anson claiming that the voting process needs to be reformed, saying England were promised votes that never came.

Suggestions have been made that Fifa were influenced by reports of corruption from within the British media, after the Sunday Times revealed that committee members Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii accepted money in return for their votes.

Blatter admits he has been surprised by the response in England, and also criticised the reaction of all losing bidders.

"To be honest, I was surprised by all the English complaining after the defeat. England, of all people, the motherland of fairplay ideas," Blatter told Swiss magazine Weltwoche.

"Now some of them are showing themselves to be bad losers. You can't come afterwards and say so and so promised to vote for England.

"The results are known. The outcome came out clearly.

"I really sense in some reactions a bit of the arrogance of the western world of Christian background. Some simply can't bear it if others get a chance for a change.

"What can be wrong if we start football in regions where this sport demonstrates a potential which goes far beyond sport?"

Influenced

Anson has suggested that Blatter influenced the executive committee before the vote by reminding them of the negative reports in the British media.

However, Blatter rejected such allegations and denied that there was corruption within the organisation. He added: "There is no systematic corruption in Fifa. That is nonsense. We are financially clean and clear."

He did concede, though, that Fifa would be trying to clean up its image in the light of recent bad press, claiming he wants to set up a taskforce to look into compliance issues.

"We need to improve our image. We also need to clarify some things within Fifa," he remarked.

"Football has become a monster which has to be tamed by Fifa. We do that and we do it well. In particular after the World Cup in Africa because nobody believed in it.

"The awarding of the World Cup has become a political issue. Heads of state pay court to me."

Asked if he would still be Fifa president to open the World Cup in 2022, Blatter said: "Definitely not. If god wills it, I will be invited to the opening party on crutches or in a wheelchair."

England sent Prime Minister David Cameron, Prince William and David Beckham to Zurich as part of a final delegation to secure late votes, but their presence was not enough to persuade the executive committee.

And when asked about calls by Cameron for a radical reform of Fifa, Blatter said: "Prime Minister Cameron is heartily invited to make his proposals."

Well, since it can't be changed, and Qatar has the 2022 World Cup, looks like now the World Cup could be held in January. Only sensible considering the horrible temperatures in June in Qatar. I would think it'd be a great idea to have it in January in 2022.

Any other thoughts, taking in to account what's done is done?

i don't think it's the scandal that many english people are making it out to be.

You mean you believe that voting was all above board and no corruption was involved. A good point you have there.

the awarding of a world cup is a massive incentive for russia to get its football racism house in order because it is of course simply unacceptable at present.

I take it you arent aware of the genocide of white farmers in SA, by black South Africans with many linked to the ANC?

Anyone who thinks 22 men kicking a ball around a park is going to affect opinions on racism issues is just being silly.

I think Russia should have won it if they had the best bid when theirs was actually rated the worst in Europe, as for Qatar well im glad theyve got it and i hope its played in winter to ruin European football seasons, as if it affects their bottom line then maybe European FA's will break away from FIFA tournaments and it'll be the end of FIFA.

Common sense not to hold the tournament in June. But not a mention of this by Blatter or in the Qatar presentation BEFORE the vote.

How on Earth can that Bid even be considered without taking into consideration the Temperatures in that Country at the time of Year the Competition is usually played ??

How on Earth can the bid then not only be considered but judged to be a winning bid, & then AFTER this, soemone realises abotu the Temps & all of a sudden the Competition gets moved 6 Months backwards or forwards ??

It's beyond ridiculous & show's the whole thing up for what it is, a fcukign joke...

From my understanding the stadiums where all gonna be indoors and temperature controlled, then taken down and spread across the world!

From my understanding the technology to control temperatures in an area the size of a stadium doesnt exist, when its 50 degrees C outside.
