Age and sun has affected my scalp and forehead. With all the fear of skin cancer I want some advice. Can anyone advise a reputable dermatologist on the island. Thank you.

Don't try bangkok hospital, i asked her to check my skin for signs of cancer.. She couldnt do it, its too hard(back home it was an easy thing, just looking for irregularity and testing them),

Christians hospitals are worse, they want u to get samples of every little part of your skin and test them.. that's gonna cost millions of bahts

Last month I went to a skin specialist in my home country (waited three months for an appt)complaining of dry itchy areas on a few places about my body. The doctor immediately asked if I had similar patches on my head. He then told me (after a brief exam) without hesitation or testing, that my malady was, that of Psoriasis. I was then prescribed an unguent (quite effective) and it has eased the patches and stopped the itchiness. BTW I thought had skin cancer. Sorry I can't recommend anyone here but hope this eases your fears.

I agree with you about the woman doctor at Bangkok Phuket Hospital, she's an idiot. I haven't found anyone good in Phuket. I just go see my dermatologist when I go to the USA for a few months and hope he had a canceled appointment as he is booked months in advance. I try to get checked yearly as I have been very close to having skin cancer. I've had two surgeries to remove super aplastic lesions. The nurse told me I'm a lucky man.

Good luck and post if you do find a good one.

hopefully someone knows a good place because i want to get checked.

I had small pimples on my pubic area before, the women at Bangkok hospital said i had an STD and told my gf a million time that she should get tested or whatever.

Weird thing is i only had sex with her for the last two years, she had nothing.

After much goggling i saw that you can easily catch that "STD"(not really an std) just by touching a door handle that someone infected touched.

Are you talking about herpes? You don't need a skin doctor to tell you if you have those! And no you can't catch then from a door handle or toilet seat. Or what are you even talking about?

The OP wants to get a check for skin cancer and I'm not sure how your post is related to the OP's topic...

Maybe you could learn to read and understand simples words like "before". Herpes is for life.

Wonder why you wasted 5mins of your time bashing my 2nd true story from this women

Thank you all. I am getting a rather bleak picture. My problem stems from something called a Keratoses. They are small lumps of dry dead skin which afflict people in their 50s and 60s. I have used a gel from the UK called Solaraze. Excellent. But one of the little blighters is looking a little fragile. Did I pick it in my sleep? I need a dermo. Someone else has said the lady in BKK HKT Hospital is good but a butcher. There is also a new clinic that has opened in Royal Marina. It has a dermo there I believe. The search continues.....thanks and keep em coming.

The clinic at the marina is more of a scam, to relieve trophy wives of their boredom, than anything else. They parade a bunch of people with "scientist outfits", put random machines anywhere they see fit, and they ask you for enormous amounts of money to pay their expensive rent.

Maybe try Phuket International Hospital, probably a lot better at this hospital.

You can go to the laser skin place in Jungceyon. The doctor seems knowledgeable and will use the laser to remove anything questionable. 1000b for something big, 500b for something small. That can mount up if you have a number of things but laser is the best way of removal. I went into the Phuket International dermo and was going to have some things frozen off there but he was out of liquid nitogent at the time. That would be a less expensive route than Jungceylon. If you know you have kerotisis (you probably need a dermatologist to verify) you can use a presciption cream called Aldara. It's not cheap at 300b per single use packet but highly effective. You can pin prick the Aldara and squeeze a little out and use it for days that way. Google for more info.

I have also been to the Bangkok Hospital dermatologist and wouldn't recommend that because although she uses laser, it's very expensive and she didn't seem knowledgeable. I'm being kind.

Thank you Pinot and others. I knew I had keratoses. My search was for the doc who could deal with them. Well I went to Phuket INt. Hospital [PIH] cause they has been very good when I broke a bone.

Oddly, the skin center[sic] is in beside the Gyno-Fertility clinic. You sit there with a lot of worried women.

The skin doc was very pleasant and quickly inspected my upper body. Within seconds the torch was out, like Darth Vader, and he cryogenically assaulted me.

I staggered out of his consulting room looking like an extra from Saving Private Ryan. He had nitrogened about a dozen areas of my face and scalp. And he meant business. Some of it was a bit painful.

A week later I went back and he hit me again. He was thorough; his hand travelling over my head looking for new enemy. But this time I felt more calm because I could see the results. Nasty little lesions, zapped the first visit, were beginning to drop off me.

In the NEw Year I go back, at his request, to see how it's all going. I feel like a new head...er man. And the costs reasonable. Although i declined buying the same ointment twice.

I did find a great eye doctor by the way at PIH but that is off topic I know.. was very impressed. (Dr Sasiwiwom.. ??)

Ok back to the topic. Read Bill O' Leary's story about Skin Cancer and the doctors here.

Quite interesting and if you know anything about him you know he is not some hippy tree hugger.

Having said that there is a recommendation in the Health forum for a skin cancer doctor in Bangkok.

My own story about the skin clinic at PIH is 3rd hand. But I once diagnosed my friend with Ring Worm after the Skin Clinic at PIH gave her some nameless cream (little white tub with no label) and charged her 800 baht.

One look at it and I told her to go to Chin Pharmacy as it was ring worm. Yep, like 65 baht later and confirmed by him, she was on her way to recovery.

Friend had some laser hair removal at PIH and got some burns on her leg.

I know your problem well as I have suffered from skin cancers and keratoses for 20 years. I'll explain how you can self treat and you can save some money. My GP in Australia is a dermotologist and laser therapist as well so it will be straight from him via me.

Firstly the kerotosis and surface skin cancers can be fixed extremely well by creams called Efudix or Aldhara. You can buy Aldhara in Patong in seperate little packets for 250 baht. It was originally used as a cure for herpes and works well on that as well. A tube of Efudix cost 45 bucks here but the results are worth every dollar.

I use efudix and what happens is after a few days the area goes red as it searches out cancerous and damaged cells. After a week you look a mess as they all go red and turn in sores that even bleed at times. I call it the leper effect. However you must keep applying the cream lightly for 3 weeks.

After that it takes a week or so but you'll see new skin growing free of all the scaly keotoses's. It is bloody miraculous and I have had great results. Ideally you do need a good dermo as certain cancers need to be cut out.

I'll never need a facelift as I've had about 3 square inches removed from my face and forehead due to skin cancers being cut off.

The pimples on the nut sack are usually only enlarged hair follicle roots. Aldhara is an excellent cream for herpes blisters. The 250 baht satchel lasts about a week used twice daily.

A tube of efudix can last a long time. Aldhara is expensive and comes in the small satchels at about 2500 baht a box of ten. Ten is way too much, that's why a tube of efudix is better.

Solaraze is good but my Dr gave me efudix as it is the best value etc. They all work the same way in destroying skin lesions. Solaraze is a gell isn't it?

Daily treatment after the leper days finish are a good cream with glycolic acid of about 10 to 15%. The best lotion is a brand called "Neo Strata" smoothing cream as it works like cut and polish for the old dial. A 200 mil bottle lasts me 3 months or more.

They also have a cream called "bionic face lotion" but it is expensive for a small bottle. Lastly take some good supplements and fish oils.

I shave my head now and constant shaving also defoliates the skin and eventually removes certain hard pieces of skin. I figure I was born ugly enough so don't need extra hits from the ugly stick.

My old mate used to say to me, loggers your not pretty and your not ugly but you are pretty oooogleeeeeeeeeeeee.

Also papaya cream for hard skin or skin tags. In Oz it is called paw paw cream and it is famous for removing hard skin tags etc.

You can also use the "makrut" fruit in Thailand. You prick it with a pin and rub the juice on the hard skin spots.

The Aborigines use urine. You rub urine on hard skin and the acid exfoliates the skin. It works well too.....

if you want to use something cheap and effective for all sorts of skin disorders , it works i have used it for years and it has been around for a very long time ....... massage a small amount of castor oil onto the area two or three times a day , it may take a week or two but in my case totally gone in three weeks and never returned ......

There is a Thai skin doctor who operates from an old shop house in Phuket Town. All the Thais go to see him for their numerous skin problems which he seems to sort out most of the time. The up side is that he charges Thai prices (ie very much less than the Hospitals). The downside is that there is always a long, long queue to see him. I believe he is open from 6pm but not 100% sure.

My wife went to see him many years ago for bad skin on her face which he cured and I went to see him a few years ago with a nose/skin complaint which he also sorted. Recommended but be prepared for a wait.

The location is on the Bangkok Road near the turning into Soi Prawat. (Just beyond the old Jammin' Club.) See http://bit.ly/gIKjEI.

Good luck.
