Why Are Americans So Easily Offended?

Not if we keep it open and civil... for my part as the OP, having worked with and for Americans for over 30 years and lived there for a dozen years have no axe to grind apart from with ICE Officer Salido at IAH.... total tosser (but that's another story).

So, we have enclaves where there was a considerable Vietnam war-era military presence as well as Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Hua Hin, Koh Phangan (for now) and Samui.

I find the older, more traveled ones have a thick skin regardless of where they chose to drink or socialise. But the younger set can get their hackles raised real fast about really inconsequential stuff.

What does this thread mean? I am not offended, just a little confused.

Just a variation on a thread that had a premature death since it got off topic. So this thread is on the topic that seemed to cause the other threads early demise.

That's my observation as well NanLaew. In fact I have noticed American's who do have a bit of international experience under their belt have quite a thick skin indeed.

It would suggest it has something to do with being away from America.

I've never been to America so couldn't possibly try to offer an explanation as to why that is. Perhaps one of our more thick skinned, less sensitive American friends on TV could offer a suggestion!

When I was working for a US company in China in the 80's, we had a manager who would fly in, stir the shit and fly out again. When getting drunk with the lads, he would claim to be part Cherokee and part Cree... who were we to argue with this blonde haired, blue-eyed manager when he was buying 4 cases of Qingdao each night for the troops?

When I went for training at the head office, he was great at getting me set up in an apartment, getting a pool car, introducing me to Texas BBQ, etc.. While at 'school' I learned that this guy had the nickname 'Walking Eagle' from his peers. I reckoned this was because of his native American heritage but apparently it was because he was so full of sh!t, he couldn't fly.
