GAZA STRIP (BNO NEWS) -- One Israeli man on Wednesday was injured after four to five mortar shells were fired from the Gaza Strip and hit the western Negev area, officials said.

The man was moderately injured after a mortar shell fired by Gaza militants stroke the Eshkol regional council in Negev. The man is the head of security in one of the kibbutzim in the area. He was hit in the neck by a piece of shrapnel outside his home.

The wounded individual was airlifted to the Soroka Hospital in Beersheba. Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) ordered residents to stay in their shelters until further notice. Overall, the attack consisted in four to five mortar shells.

"Escalation is only a matter of time. The threat in the area is constant and growing," the southern regional councils said in a statement. "We hope that the government will know how to relate to this reality, before formulating policy for the southern line of conflict for 2011. This will be an active line of conflict for the foreseeable future."

The attacks are a response to the killing of two armed Palestinian militants suspected of attempting to infiltrate through the Gaza Strip border earlier this month. IDF soldiers opened fire on the two militants as they were laying explosives at the fence near Kibbutz Kfar Aza.

In November, Palestinian militants fired a Grad rocket and ten mortar shells at southern Israel. The attack damaged a tanker truck but no casualties or injuries were reported. In response, IDF struck three alleged terror sites in the Gaza Strip.

Since the beginning of 2010, more than 180 Grad missiles, Qassam rockets and mortar shells fired from the Gaza Strip have landed in Israeli territory, and over 400 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel since the end of Operation Cast Lead, according to IDF figures.

Where is the outcry from the left about the shedding of innocent blood?

Oh, it was an civilian Israeli wounded and not a armed Hamas fighter...well, guess it is alright then.
