Thai Visa Party

Beer and I would just like to thank everyone who came along to lasts nights Thai visa party. We had been really nervous the few days before the party having never catered for such a large number before. The conversations we had with so many nice people indicated that the people who came along enjoyed themselves.

We'd both like to thank George for making the whole thing possible and to Barry for being such an easy guy to work with!

We'd like to thank Rob and everyone at Sausage King whose curry really stole the show food wise and also to our lovely chef Emma who organised the Veg curry and the rice that complemented the curry, and to the vendor on the street outside the Olde Bell who cooked 50 rotis for us!!

thanks to Nana for their pasta sauces and again to our chef Emma who turned the sauces into tasty pasta dishes and made the salads that went with them.

a big thank you to David at Dukes for the lovely pizzas that arrived just as everyone thought they were full, but soon decided they could manage just a small slice of pizza

Thanks also to our staff at The Olde Bell who worked so hard to prepare for the party and ot my lovely wife Beer who can hardly walk today poor thing after running up and down stairs so many times!

but mostly, a very big thank you to you, the Thai Visa members, who came along and were so friendly toward me, my wife and our staff and who showed why this forum is such an important part of the information chain that makes Chiang Mai life so much more enjoyable for long stayers and new arrivals alike. We may bicker at times but together we add a little something to the quality of life here.

Thanks again and we hope to see you again over the festive season!

Well said, Pedr

I agree with you. The party did show the strength of Thaivisa as a forum. Great camaraderie generally.

At all parties there is a mix of people: some circulate and mix with newbies as well as old friends; some prefer to stay within their little circle; some like to make new friends; some more standoffish or shy than others

TV is criticised occasionally for its flaming and cliquiness but the party you so efficiently organised showed a different side of the forum in my opinion.

We both really enjoyed it

I learnt one thing which I thought was interesting. We were talking within a group of around four members. One commented that Brits were always winging. No one commented. After a few minutes the same person modified the point effectively withdrawing it. On the forum the remark would have generated a response, flames would have started, mods getting involved with warnings and holidays, and the thread closed. It seems face to face contact allows discussion to flow freely and politely; forum anonymity perhaps unfortunately allows or encourages a more conflicting approach to debate.

Great party. Great fellowship. Great organisation. And I fell in love with the Great beer ( I mean the Leo of course  )

Thanks to Thai Visa for organising such a tremendous party.

Thanks to the Old Bell for hosting such a fabulous party.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy a meal that I was certain would be based around vegetable stew and party sausage rolls , but the Sausage King curry certainly surpassed my expectations! Chicken Tandoori Massala, a curry lovers dream, and I had a number of plate fulls to soak up the number of free beer leo's that I had consumed.

Complements to the pasta and pizza supplier also, it was brilliant.

It was a great night with tremendous company,

I met some fabulous people, all of which seemed to enjoy each others company, which was a big surprise.

I had a natter with the Sausage King last night and advised he should re-brand to become the Curry King, what a pleasant chap, I found out he had lived with an Indian family for a number of years and this is why he can make such an outstanding curry.

Thanks again to The Old Bell and Thai Visa for such a pleasant evening, TheSausage King (Curry King), Nanna foods and others.

Congratulations Pedr,

A job well done if I may repeat what others have stated.

Myself, Thaimiller and the others with us enjoyed ourselves very much.

The Cider was very nice and I'm afraid that this was the reason the free beer upstairs never got a second glance from us.

Wasn't a fan of the curry at all but it was good to see there was ample for everyone who did enjoy it.

As mentioned, the pizza that arrived was very nice indeed.

Will be making your place a much more frequent stopping point after visiting on Saturday and having an enjoyable chat with yourself.

I had a great time. Met a few people new. Couldn't go upstairs so I missed some which is a bit sad....luckily we left before Wolf5370 started dancing. Great host great place and even better the main part has been made accessible for wheelchairs....a sign of a great host.

Did Mr Pillion turn up to the party and reveal his 'identity'?

I didn't go because I was afraid that I would have to carry Harrry up the stairs - and I have the flu as well.:D

It is not the carrying up that worries me so much.....after all they did that at the Playhouse....an excellent venue too. Can you image what being carried down the stairs at 2am by the lot that inhabit the TV forum would be like.

Sorry I couldn't make the party,I had business to attend to in Bangkok. It sounds like it was a good party by all accounts. There seemed to be a lot of people going, but I haven't seen much feed back from the net, so I'm interested to know how many people turned up in the end.

P.s

On my way to the airport on Saturday, I saw a lonely looking farang person dressed in full white leathers with a white full face helmet, standing on the canal road thumbing for lifts. I thought at first he had had problems with his Superbike or something, but I couldn't see a bike anywhere. Strange really the things you see some times.

There were some there not on the list including apparently K Hunt

Would have been interesting to have had a discussion with him

Kevin Hunt came as a plus one with myself and Mr Clough so he didn't need to be on the list

No problem. My point was that it would have been nice to talk face to face. It was never easy for people to deal with him on the forum

I have had no trouble dealing with him on the forum or in real life. I would have liked to have spoken to him too but saw his back vanishing up the stairs too late.

You could always pop down to his place and chat with him?

That is, if you wanted to chat with him of course!

Not sure why you say "of course" I would have had no problem socialising with him at a Christmas party.

I thought I was clear.

My wife and I spoke to lots of people, obviously not everyone.

Pedr, I have sent you a pm

As on the other posts - thanks Pedr for a great venue and making us all welcome, and to all the sponsors and George. Met loads of people - old faces and new - really enjoyed the evening (slept in on Sunday though!). I managed a chat with Kevin between his interviews with George - and I echo Pedr in hoping a few issues were finally resolved there. Shame some others didn't make it in the end, but see you all at the next BBQ.

A gentleman approached my girlfriend and I at the top of the first flight of stairs. He mumbled something completely unintellible and pointed at my lady's handbag. I said 'pardon me' twice and he garbled something again. Finally he shuffled of with a shrug. I guess he figured we didn't speak his language, possibly Pirate. Who was he and what on earth did he want?

probably a Cockney from London.

I was on a ferry to Samui one day with 3 of them and it wasn't until we almost got to the island before I realized they were sort of speaking English. :D

You were missed. Thatchakorn and I both looked for an overbearing American (and the only time I saw one was in the mirror in the toilet ;)

Maybe Ian. Or he could have been a canadian fisherman

In fact any nationality

A droll comment I suppose but not too nice to knock cockneys. There was a warning on the Singapore thread about Singapore bashing ( personally i thought it was commenting on the singapore topic but obviously someone thought otherwise for whatever reason)
