American Airlines launches iPhone application for employees

2010-12-14 03:46:32 GMT+7 (ICT)

FORTH WORTH, TEXAS (BNO NEWS) -- American Airlines on Monday launched the air carrier's first iPhone travel application, JetAway, for personal and confirmed business non-revenue travel use by employees and retirees.

With the new application, employees and retirees who own an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad will have a mobile application that will allow them to check in for a flight, check flight details on any confirmed and upcoming non-revenue trips, get gate and time information and priority list details.

"We recognize that just like our customers, our employees live in an increasingly mobile world, and we want to provide them with the same mobile technology tools that we provide our customers to make their lives easier both at work and home," said Monte Ford, AA Chief Information Officer.

The announcement is part of American Airlines' mobility strategy and comes just in time for holiday travel. JetAway for iPhone is the first in a series of mobility solutions that the airline will roll out for its employees during the next year.

The application gives employees tailored functionalities for non-revenue personal and confirmed business travel, but mirrors the one launched in July 2010 for customers. The airline is also planning the release of versions for the Android and Blackberry in 2011.

In addition, American Airlines also enhanced Mobi.AA.com, an existing browser-based application that offers much of the same functionality to employees on any internet-enabled device.

More than 230 of American’s Information Technology Services (ITS) employees have been testing JetAway since mid-November and have, according to the airline, been enthusiastic about the application's functionality.
