Can anyone tell me if there is any UPS offices in Pattaya or Jomtien. Someone has sent me a parcel and they wantloads of paperwork filled in plus taxes. Cant get them to understand me on the phone.Thought would popin to an office if there was one available. Though that might not be much better. Had a look on website but just showing 100k away.

Cant help you on an office location...but just beware of UPS.

I had a parcel from Ireland sent last week on Monday. It was flown to Germany...China and finaly Bangkok on Wednesday where it has stayed.

UPS then said that they needed delivery instructions.!!! but didnt contact me until yesterday. I questioned why they wanted delivery instructions when they had a delivery address in Chiang Mai....need for customs they said....what a load of rubbish.

Since the package was perishable I then told UPS to stick it up their ????

I dont have problems with DHL but UPS seem very unreliable and not at all professional.

Best of luck.

I don't know where their nearest office is but I recently exchanged e-mails with them regarding payment of duties on incoming parcels. This was their reply:

"The shipment will be cleared by UPS, we pay the import duty on behalf of customer after that our driver will collect the charge from consignee while shipment is delivered.

If we may be in future assistance, please feel free to contact us.

I would have thought from that response that they would deal with any paperwork you might have on your behalf. A previous package delivered to me by them, without any customs duty, was delivered promptly with only the local 7% tax which i paid to the UPS driver on delivery to my door. Might be worth an e-mail to try to sort it out if you can't understand what they say on the telephone.

Thanks for that. These are different numbers than the ones I have. Will give the a try. My main concern is what its showing as taxes I might have to pay.

1 Formal Entry charges 1284 baht

2 Storage charge 82 baht per day

3 Terminal Charges 192.80 baht

4 Amendment Charge 1214.00 baht in case importer name or other date not the same as airline manifesto

5 Duty will inform after process

6 Customs fee. 214.00 baht

Never had this problem with anyone else.I need to send back 4 pages of paperwork and a copy of my passport.. As you can see the total on that lot above is a pretty penny. All this hassle . It is a gift from an old pensioner who is my neighbour in the uk and as I am recovering from BC has sent as a treat and would have cost a wee bit to send. I really dont want to just dump it but dont want to pay all the above either.

I've only used them the one time but had no problems at all, maybe I had a lucky escape. Do you know the content and value of the package? Mine was an e-reader and some accessories to a total value of around $300 and all I had to pay at this end was about 700 Baht tax. The charges you are being quoted seem excessive unless this is a high value item which seems unlikely being a gift from an OAP. I believe UPS have a number of different service levels the cheapest of which I think involve the use of Thailand Postal Services for onward despatch within Thailand and being the most likely option for an OAP I suspect this may explain why UPS haven't dealt with the customs side of it for you. If you pay for the full door to door delivery it seems to work but your experience and that of gennisis seems to suggest that maybe on the lesser tariffs they wash their hands of the delivery at the point of entry.

I ship quite a lot into Thailand, I NEVER use UPS or Fedex, they would appear to be tied in with Customs and you end up with all sorts of charges added on.

From the US USPS is very good & from the UK Royal mail, never a problem, minimal charges if any.

I used ups once for usa to thailand ( sakon nakon) never agin

package made it to bkk in record time, but then they turned it over to the thai postal system ( it was documents needed in a timely manner)

from bkk to sno took 8 days of farting around before delivery.
