TOKYO (BNO NEWS) -- A Japanese man armed with a knife stabbed several people on Friday, injuring thirteen people near a bus station before being detained by police, local media reported.

Unemployed 27-year-old Yuta Saito boarded two different commuter buses near the JR Toride station in Toride, a city about 35 kilometers (22 miles) northeast of Tokyo, in the Ibaraki Prefecture. Police said he began randomly attacking passengers, injuring a total of 13 people.

According to reports, four of the injured were stabbed, including one person who suffered deep wounds that will require weeks of recovery. Others mostly suffered minor wounds.

Among the injured were mostly school children, according to police which said four of the injured are junior high school students and seven others are high school students.

A local resident was able to stop Saito from continuing his rampage before local authorities arrived and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder.

In June 2008, a Japanese man drove his truck into a crowd of people in the Akihabara electronics district of Tokyo before getting out and stabbing others. A total of seven people were killed, while ten others were injured.
