Chinese to check on panda family

By The Nation

A delegation from China is heading for Thailand next month to discuss the future of the three pandas at Chiang Mai Zoo.

The pandas are Lin Hui, Chuang Chuang and their baby Linping.

Since the birth nearly two years ago, the pandas have become superstars - boosting the number of tourists to the Chiang Mai Zoo.

According to the current agreement, baby Linping will have to return to China within five months.

However, Thailand is now asking China to allow Linping to stay on in Chiang Mai for another two years.

Zoological Park Organisation director Sopon Damnui said the Chinese delegation would arrive in Thailand on January 8 and visit Chiang Mai on January 10.

"I would like to urge Linping fans to give a warm welcome to the delegation to make them know we really want Linping to stay," Sopon said.

He believed China would give an answer as to whether it would extend the stay of the three pandas during the visit.

According to Sopon, officials are now planning for the mating of Lin Hui and Chuang Chuang again, because Linhui usually ovulated in either January or February.

I checked on them yesterday when I took the family to the zoo. They appear fine, but it's kind of boring to pay good money to see sleeping animals for a few minutes. Could the Chinese, when they come, teach them to do some tricks or something, and have a show, like the seals? The movie "On the Trail of the Panda" was a lot more interesting than seeing the animals in person. poot len - they're kind of cool, and they like it cool where they sleep, take a jacket.

Well let's hope Chuang Chuang can do another number on Lin Hui real soon. It would be a good case for the Chinese to let them stay on if she is up the duff again. Fingers are crossed. Chiang Mai just wouldn't be the same without this lovely little family. :wai:

We should all bear in mind that this is not such a black and white issue as some would make it. Fur sure, it would be preferable if the Thais tried to panda to the soft side of the Chinese officials rather than attempting to bamboozle them.

LOL LOL LOL :cheesy:

MOST FAMOUS PANDA

Thailand requests China to extend stay for Lin Ping

By The Nation

Thailand on Monday starts negotiations with the visiting Chinese delegation to extend the stay of panda Lin Ping, who is scheduled to return to China in May.

Thailand hopes that Lin Ping, the most famous resident of Chiang Mai Zoo, will be allowed to stay in Thailand for another two years.

Since her birth nearly two years ago, Lin Ping and her parents have become superstars, boosting the number of tourists to the Chiang Mai Zoo. According to the current agreement, Lin Ping has to return to China within five months.

Two options will be discussed in the negotiations between Thai and the visiting Chinese officials, which started on Monday: either China sends a male panda here to mate with Lin Ping or Lin Ping goes to China, chooses her mate and returns to Thailand.

Sophon Damnui, director of Zoological Park Organisation of Thailand, said that Thailand will offer to set up a Panda Research Centre in Chiang Mai zoo compound as part of the negotiation.

Natural Resource and Environment minister Suwit Kunkitti had already held talks with China twice about extending Lin Ping's stay.

"It is highly likely that China will agree to the Thai request for Lin Ping to stay for another two years in Chiang Mai," Sophon said.

Lin Ping, the first panda cub born in Thailand and the daughter of Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui, is now 20 months old.

Sopon said, "I would like to urge Lin Ping fans to give a warm welcome to the delegation and let them know how much we really want Lin Ping to stay," Sopon said.

He believed China would give an answer as to whether it would extend the stay of the three pandas during the visit.

Officials are now planning for the mating of Lin Hui and Chuang Chuang again, because Lin Hui usually ovulates in either January or February.

My kids tell me, the movie "Kung-<deleted> Panda" might provide inspiration, although I don't myself know this work ?

I think Lin Ping was the result of A.I., as Chuang Chuang was too-overweight to perform, but may have read that in some unreliable/prurient tabloid-newspaper ? Hopefully he is now of a more-athletic build ? Cut down on those 'Oreos' !

But it would indeed be cruel to split the family up, by sending any/all of them home as the existing contract requires, perhaps Immigration would 'bend the rules' and issue tourist-visas for more pandas, on (com)passionate grounds ? :wub:B)

Yes. You are correct. It was a A.I job. Maybe they can put him on a diet and exercise program. Hahaha. And maybe a Viagra or two for the old boy. [Joke]

I am with you. Hope they can stay on longer. I love them to death.

I have been 3 times to see them.

Once by myself, then with my Thai g/f.

Since then I married and have taken my wife.

I live in NZ, flitting between LoS and Philippines inc countries between.

The Pandas have a great enclosure in C.M.zoo.

Shame to separate a family, but Chinese are unemotional.

Lotta Kiwi friends went to C.M, just to see the Pandas.

Has there been any new info?

Edit: Just to suggest visit at feeding times.

They do move.......LOL
