we headed south yesterday - from Sa Kaeo to Chao Lao beach - about 30km from Chanthaburi

if things happen in threes . . .

1 was being overtaken by an overloaded pickup and noticing one of the sacks of rice had moved back over the tailgate . . . slowed down and let them go, sure enough a sack of rice hit the road a couple of km later

2 in a long queue of pickups and trucks at about 40km/h through a town when a motorscooter heading north decided to 'take the gap' unfortunately we were in that gap. so close to being hit side-on and no idea how he avoided the pickup directly behind us

3 another slow speed going through a town, pillion on bike directly in front dropped her schoolbag, got between that and following vehicle with not much room to spare

4 and 5 less dangerous except to the pocket maybe, first stopped at an army checkpoint then further south at a police one. I must have a nice smile! Spoken to the usual where from/where are you going then let on our way

Went home from a staff party through Mae Tang late last night, had to take a detour. There must have been a real bad accident as both sides of the highway was closed. Saw paramedics in a rush.
