ZUNYI, CHINA (BNO NEWS) -- At least seven people were killed on Monday morning in a pile-up involving more than 100 vehicles on a foggy expressway in southwest China, state-run media reported.

The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that the pile-up happened at around 8 a.m. local time on an expressway in Zunyi County, in the country's Guizhou Province. It happened while the road was extremely foggy with a visibility of around 50 meters (164 feet).

Xinhua said the pile-up began when a truck crashed into a petrol station along the expressway, after which more than 100 other vehicles crashed into the rear of each other.

Six of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a seventh victim died at the People's Hospital in Zunyi County. Fifteen others were hospitalized for their injuries.
