TAT will receive 6 billion baht budget in 2012 to improve Thai tourism

BANGKOK, 29 December 2010 (NNT) -- The Board of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has reportedly been granted a budget of 6 billion baht to the TAT for 2012, expecting the agency to generate 5% more revenue from local tourists and 7% more from foreigners.

According to the TAT, an increase of 700 million baht has been approved based on the government’s policies on sport and tourism, environmental factor, as well as the TAT’s policy itself.

21% of the 2012 budget will be spent on promoting Thai tourism overseas, 11% for domestic market, and 40% for general expenses; while 32% will be spent on enhancing the industry through modern media. Meanwhile, the budget for next year is reportedly expected to earn the industry 506 billion baht in revenue .

Alright!!!...this means more vacations (whoops, I mean business trips) for the TAT staff to the US, Europe, China, Japan, etc., to drum up Thai tourism.

I wonder how one might get a piece of that action if they want to advertise for Thailand offshore?? Hmmm

With 6 BILLION Baht, why not be REALLY creative?

Simply advertise and tell everyone in the World, that if you book, one full price airfare and a minimum of 14 nights accomodation in Thailand by January 31st , 2011, you get exactly the same ticket/accomodation for a travel partner for FREE, paid by TAT!!

The Government would get discounts on airfares and hotels, so would never pay the "tourist price" anyway, and it would be great PR for Thai holidays whilst gauranteeing the money went where it would get used best, in Thailand!.

Why they need a budget to improve tourism, there are report severy day that thai tourism regardless of the worldwide reccession stil is booming at un UNSEEN level.

'and 40% for general expenses' :ermm:

I hope they set up the Bangkok International Film Festival again minus Juthamas Siriwan. That got Thailand some serious coverage and now with so many films being made here from overseas, you would think they would se the benefit.

The Nation strikes again, the total percentage shown is 104 per cent?

A 6 billion baht budget?

Does this mean members of the TAT will be able to afford to fly abroad and drag the tourists over themselves?

So first we immediately take off 30%, or 1.8 billion baht for some hot tea, then...

Let's take..um...another 30% for more TAT official red carpet visits to other offices worldwide, then...

Just take the money to subsidize lower airfares to get the people here faster. And do it systematically by country. Thai Airways is a semi-government entity anyway, what the hell are they doing charging so much? Oh right, to pay for the free travel for TG officials and their families. Du-oh!

Same day, same bat channel.
