Vikings quarterback Brett Favre fined for not cooperating on sexting case

NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) -- Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre on Wednesday was fined with $500,000 for not cooperating with the investigation over the sexting case against him, Fox Sports reported.

The National Football Association (NFL) decided to fine Favre after determining that he was not candid in several aspects of the investigation. Favre was accused by former New York Jets media personality Jenn Sterger of sexual harassment.

Sterger alleged that Favre sent her inappropriate text messages, voice mails and pictures, including some of his genitalia, while he was a player for the New York Jets in 2008. Favre only admitted leaving a voice mail to Sterger as he left the Jets and denied the other allegations.

The NFL opened an investigation in October to determine if the legendary quarterback violated the league’s conduct policy. Sterger delivered substantial evidence to the NFL investigators including, photos and text messages. However, the league fined the player for not cooperating and did not address the conduct violation.

The investigation ended last week and Sterger was concerned that a decision would be taken until the end of the season in February. Favre, 41, has expressed that he will retire at the end of the regular season, although he has claimed the same in the past.

The Sterger case has impacted negatively in both Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. The team began the season with a 3-7 win-loss record which resulted in the firing of head coach Brad Childress. Last season, the Vikings reached playoffs and Favre was a candidate for the Most Valuable Player Award.

Favre has had one of the worst seasons in his career. He witnessed his NFL-record streak of 297 consecutive starts ending on December 13 as he was unable to recover from a shoulder injury. In the last two games, Favre has been removed after suffering injuries, including a concussion last Thursday.
