Where Can I Buy A 16Mm2 Copper Cable?

Featured Replies

I need either a 16mm2 copper cable or a 25mm alluminium cable but I have no idea where I can buy this in Pattaya. Places to go and an indication of the price for about 50m would be great.

There is a great electrical shop on the bottom of therrapisit road. From sukimvette go down towards Jomtien almost to the bottom . On the right hand side there is a place with a long name(large on the outside of building) If by any reason you can't find it ask any local towards the turn off to go to jomtien. It is the shop everyone uses. Kanyong hardware store gets their cable from the same place but I paid 7200 baht there compared to 9900 baht at Kanyong & they would have to order it. Great shop for electrical . Good luck. It will be the cheapest around, But the same brand! They usually have rolls in stock that size copper cable.I am sure they carry aluminum as well. remember if you use aluminum terminate the end with copper before hooking anything up so it does not get hot & torch up. Been there done that already!

Can't help with getting the stuff, but I'll re-iterate beardog's warning regarding terminating Aluminium, you can't just bung it in a screw terminal intended for Copper.

There are a couple of threads on TV regarding just this.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Porn chai electric near the bus station on Pattaya Nua

Plenty around,if you are in the Jomtien area there is the one Beardog mentions and there is another one halfway Thepprasit road opposite the MP Gas station.

North Pattaya you will have Pornchai next to the busstation on Pattaya nua,as mentioned by another poster.

If you are closer to Naklua, there is Numchai at the traffic light in Naklua center, about 200 meters towards Pattaya at the left hand side.

The one on Naklua has a great selection as well. I have used both shops as often one shop does not have all on the wish list!

Under ground PEA requires copper. One neighbor wanted to save, so used copper in each visible end, and 100meters aluminum inbetween. Lasted almost 2 years. Now new copper all the way.;)

Even with special connectors copper-aluminum, most have problems within 10 years

Would you not get galvanization problems with a copper to aluminium connection?

They make a substance called alumicoat That goes over the wires as you wood use a flux paste in soldering.(not to be confused with soldering joints which is a no no!

The paste is an anti corrosive agent just for that purpose. It is used a lot Here as the Kamoies had a heyday with copper several years back before they cleaned up this area. If you told the Electrical office that you had problems they wave the needing copper rule (for a temporary drop to a permanent drop)Some not all the wiring technicians use the agent for using aluminum & copper together.

Edit: the name of the shop in Pattaya on Therrapisit rd is Pornchai electric.
