Auto Sum Function Not Working In Open Office Spreadsheets

Featured Replies

I have Open Office 3.2.1 and Im using Ubuntu 10 OS. For some reason the auto sum function simply will not work in the spreadsheets. When I try to use it, the final cell just shows 'SUM()' .

I tried googling this and on some forums it said to make sure format was not set on 'text' but on numbers and general, did that, still didnt work, a few times the function did work but gave a result of 0. I have tried changing the format to to currency with the same results.

This tool is vital for me and I am going to be a right pickle if I can't get this to work :(

Any advice?

Mine is fine, though I'm running 11.04, but I don't think that is an issue. Maybe you should reinstall it.

Did you just change the format on the sun box or all the boxes that have numbers in them. If you only changed the sum box this might be the issues it is still seeing the other cells as text and ignoring them.

other than this I dont have a clue, as I have had no problems with mine.

Yes changed to numbers for the entire column, I actually tried removing and re-installing it before but will try again anyway.

I think if you anually set the entire colum to numbers, the the formual cell may need to be change to represent the fact it is a formula.

I just tried an experiment, where I set the cell with the sum formula as a text cell to get the symptoms you have.

Changing it back to either number of an 'all formats' cell made no difference, but after changing it to 'all formats', if deleted the contents and re-entered the formula all was OK.
