BANNU, PAKISTAN (BNO NEWS) - Pakistani police on Tuesday killed one person and wounded more than a dozen others when a protest against power cuts in the country's northwest went out of control, according to Samaa Television.

About 500 protesters had blocked the Bannu-Dera road in the country's northwest for about three hours when violence erupted at the rally. "Police baton charged to disperse the protesters and one protester was killed when police opened fire to control the mob," Samaa reported on its website.

After the incident, which left one person killed and 13 others injured, a city-wide curfew was imposed.
