fredob43
Thanks very much. Is it worth making a detour to see Phitsanulok ? not unless you want to add two hour's for the trip. As there's nothing there.

As there's nothing there. add another 1-2 hours on top of the additional 2 hours if there is still construction going on from Denchai to Lampang through the mountains. should be done by now though. As there's nothing there. Take motor way to BKK airport, 2 km after take left turn to Bang pa-in then on to Ayuthaya. Then as Gotlost said it wll take you anything up 9/10 hour's if your thinking of a stop over K.P.Phet is about the right distance. 3/4 hour short of C/M. K.P.Phet has lot's of place's to eat on the river Ping nice but all Thai. Have a good trip. Edited January 12, 2011 by fredob43

MikeyIdea
Phitsanolouk is actually a charming city, agree that it is not worth a detour on a Chiang Mai trip. Another trip - yes

I will be driving this route again Friday, I drove it two months ago and the construction was still going on and I doubt that it is finished. Do not worry about it just take your time going threw it. As for the the Phitsanulok area yes it is worth while particularly the ruins at at national park in Sukhothai. To see this i recommend staying over for a night or two. There are some great little guest house and hotels in the area.

Not as good as S/Kthai but still well worth a look. + it's smaller with less traffic. And to my mind a better selection of restaurant's. May I suggest next time you take it off.
