I have a good friend who married a Thai girl 3 months ago. They will have a baby in June. My friend is only 24 years old and is currently back in Canada , making money etc . He originally planned on moving his family to Canada which his wife is willing to do although not probably in love with the idea.

My friend really loves Thailand and would rather stay in Thailand as I am sure his wife would prefer.

1. What way is best to proceed to be able to stay in Thailand

2. What is the possibility of being able to support his family in Thailand and the best way to go about getting that permit.

Thanks so much for your input!!!

Does he have a collage degree (to allow a future in teaching)? That is likely the one sure field currently (although Korea seems to have a robot option). Has he special knowledge/abilities that could be used in the job market here?

For most people I suspect a move would not be advisable as the Thai feeling is husband should have wife go with him to his country when there is such a marriage. There is now also the question of education for a child.

Perhaps another option would be a carrier that would allow work in Thailand at some point?

This seems to be a lifetime decision so be sure he thinks long and hard about all factors.

A future in Thailand will depend on his education and job skills to earn a living. In general, he won't be able to get a job that a Thai can do, so he must have some special skills in order to get a job. Otherwise a job as teacher is the only thing left, and that is not a job one should take without really liking it.

If no skills that are in demand in Thailand, financially it is best to look for future in Canada.

Get 100,000 baht together and just come here... be with your (ooops HIS) wife and get a job teaching in the sticks for 25-30K. When you have done a year, move up a bit.. get something better.

Just keep that 100K in the bank just in case. I say that to EVERYBODY in Thailand.

Don't worry too much about qualifications.. half the teachers here have no degree or a fake one...

A CRAZY idea?

It's just what i did 10 years ago.. I'm still here, happy as Larry.

His best option for a Visa would be a Non Immigrant O based on marriage, that will allow him to come here and look for work, but as above finding work may be the issue.

Some additional information and questions

He has professional dance experience and twice has been offered jobs with both Lady and Gay GoGo Bars to make their show better and or dancing . He never accepted offers because without work permit he was afraid of being black-listed.

Can this sort of job be covered with a work permit and or computer consulting such as building web-sites. What would be involved in buying a small business. What exactly can he do in the business if he has work permit.

Thanks for all the answers so far!!!

I'm sorry but I just have to laugh my arse off at this OP and then this added info.

PLEASE explain just how and where he got these offers etc. This is as funny as posts get I think. So he was here and met a lady and one night they were in a gogo bar and the owner of the place walked up and said "Hello, I have a premanition that you are a dancer. I would like to offer you a job here in Thailand dancing as a gay gogo dancer. Would your wife be ok with that?"

And then the same thing happened again when he was in a gogo bar with lady dancers? 55555555555555555555555555555555

Keep it comming please you are chearing me up.

Even if this was a legitamate post can I ask why YOU are making the post for YOUR FRIEND and not HIM doing it?

The one thing you do need to live here in LOS is to be resourcful and its seems your friend is NOT sorry to seem so synical but come on man......

To answer the question: I doubt 'teaching go go dancers pole-dancing' is a unique enough expertise to allow him a WP...

I dont know....He could be classed as a "technical specialist" to an industry which is a key contributer to Thailand's GDP, would have a nice ring on his WP dont you think ?

I think there are plenty of Thai Choreographers already, don't you?

It is a funny thread though! A broke ill teacher that can't spell laughing at a guy with dance experience! Color me synical (SIC),

To the OP --- without a degree your friend will find it difficult to get a WP (not impossible). I suggest he get a degree in Education or English prior ro coming to stay in Thailand. If he actually has a career in Canada he should move his wife there.
