leisurely
Could anyone explain what the statue in the sea near cha-am is. We were there early this year and saw it. neither me nor husband speak thai (hanging head in shame!) She is black and from what I remember has some children around her> It really is a curious thing. Thank you.

Thetyim
Hey, I've been to Puek Tian four times, I never saw that. How long has it been there ?
bino
These figures come from a much loved children's story by the renowned Thai author Sunthorn Phu. The story is about a classic love triangle between the flute player, a mermaid and a sea monster. Similar statues can be found in many places- Sai Kaew beach in Ko Samed, at the Big Buddha in Ko Samui, etc. Do a search of the forum for "Sunthorn Phu". There was a great thread a few months ago.
